A little stumper for ya...

Here's the deal...

My starter isn't working. The little gear won't kick over to the flywheel.

The BIG problem...

I lost my alarm fob. So, if I disconnect the battery, I can't reconnect it without the alarm going off. The alarm is circa 1983 or '84, so it doesn't have an ignition kill, but it's loud as $#@! (I have dual horns on it) and will go off for about 3 minutes, off for 3, on for 3....you get the idea.

So.... what's a brutha to do?

i am supprised the alarm hasnt gone all ****ed up on you, there was one of those python systems in mine and it would go off when ever it wanted even with the sensitivity turned all the way down.

if you lost the fob i assume your not really using it, hack the ****er out. havent had any problems or needed an alarm for a while considering no fob i am guessing

you could always just disconnect the alarm box... if its factory its under the passenger seat, well atleast mine was.

This one's after market. The guy who installed it used all green wires and for some reason, it loops into/out of the headlight harness.

I just lost the fob about two weeks ago...It should be in the console, but NOOOOoooooo..... It's not under the seats, either...I looked.

If I just clip the wires going to the horns, the alarm will still trigger, and lights will flash. Right?

Hmmmm..... If I find the control box, there should be a fuse in it -or- an inline fuse (someone who knows, feel free to chime in here!). So, by removing the fuse, I'd be disabling the system with no adverse affects to the car. Right?

Then, I could do the work I need to do, locate the fob (by some miracle) and put everything back the way it was.

Am I correct in my thought process?

If it has starter kill hack out the relay or your hooptie won't start. That may be the only problem anyway. Make sure you reconnect the starter circuit, then remove the antique and ditch it.

uhhh... cut the wires to the alarm horns...? If an alarm goes off in the woods and there's no siren to activate, does anyone notice?

I'll be doing the "Under Dash Gymnastics" today. I might make things easier and take out the seat.

No starter kill...just loud sirens. Damn thing is deafening.

LWW-- If I cut the horns the lights will still flash and drain my battery.

Sorry, I didn't realize your lights were tied into the alarm. At least that'll give you a quiet place to work while you're disconnecting the rest of the alarm...

Update:

Well.... It seems that there IS an ignition kill. I don't know how to get around it. I cut out the box, and the damn thing still went off. I cut the wires to the alarm horns, and it cut EVERYTHING.

I put it all back together, and now the headlights won't come on.

...sigh...

Whoever installed this also made a complete mess of the wires under the dash making it all but impossible to trace out anything.

sounds like they did a good job if it cut the ignition after the alarm was removed.

They probably ran the ignition, lights, alarm horns through the alarm control box so when you cut it out, you cut power to the ignition circuit.

All you need to do is bridge the ignition circuit back into the ignition switch. Probably need to do the same with the headlights.

You'll need a wiring diagram from a Haynes or Factory Service Manual to sort it out. This is where it might be time to go to a "push button" start like we did with our 24hrs of LeMons race car!

Well, dammit. I wired up everything like it was, but there's some black wire that's been cut. I don't think I cut it because I only cut close to the alarm box, but far enough away so I can re-splice everything.

I've completely torn apart the car and the garage looking for this alarm fob. Next...the house.

My wife isn't going to like that....

I'm so pissed right now. All I need is a new starter!!!!!

This the worst problem I've ever encountered.

Now the lights won't come on and the car won't even try to start. I wish I could look up the guy who installed this damn thing.

I've tried tracing the wires, looked at the FSM for help with wiring.... I'm tired of looking at the schematics and seeing something totally different under the dash!!!

Can someone come over and play? I'll buy the beer!!!
