L24 stuff
Ok well I went out to SLC and went to every junkyard out there only only found 2 Z both S30s Ones a 280 the other a 240 well my luck the 280s engine had no compression at all (i could turn the engine over very easly with no wrench. but the 240s was good. so I took the ENTIRE L24 Roundtop SUs and all and It seems fine
Now to what I want to ask. For now I want to try running the SUs on my 280ZX, can I get by, by tieing the efi harness up out of the way, bypassing around the fuel pump and undoing the power to it and using a carb filter? Er shit I just remembered the Power steering.... that wont fit with that fuel pump on the engine huh? Um... Oh ya, the Engine looks like its been sitting a long time (no rust at all on the engine inside or out by the looks of it) but I think the SU butterfly valves are frozen. Any ideas? Im not gonna fix the typos, I just got home after that drive and Im dead tired. Gnight now |
slap the SU's on with a 3-5lb FPR and your good.
pull em apart and clean them, re assemble. make sure theres oil in the dashpot and things are tuned right when you have them on and running |
just tie the power steering pump out of the way as well. are you sure your turning the right lever?

I have had the pleasure of cutting the power steering belt on many of my vehicles and have never had a problem.

Where do I get a FPR that drops it from like what 40PSI to 3-5PSI?
get one with a 3-5lb rating, it dosent matter what your pump is putting out, thats what the fuel pressure regulator is for. or just get a mechanical pump and lose your electric pump |
you can always put a holley blue out back and call it good. if you stick with the electric pump, no need to loose the p/s

Ok I got my old engine out of my Z, and I've got the L24 on a stand right now as I clean it and the engine bay of my Z, I was just going to reuse my old 2+2 clutch but it looks pretty work down (I'll mic it in a bit to see) And BLECK REALLY OLD GAS @.@ I think I might have to take apart the carbs to just clean them but I wanna see if I can get lucky first. Their unfrozen now too and working smoothly. Now just to clean everyhting and toss it all into my Z lol
Oh ya does anyone have a good work FPR I can have? I'll give you 280ZX parts from my junk Z for a trade! |

you know a 2+2 clutch and flywheel is a different size than coup clutch and flywheel right?
Im tired ok lol EDIT: I MEANT FLYWHEEL SURFACE! Damn it Im gonna nap, I gotta shoot those annoying birds outside my window.......... |
Ok just a few quick questions before I start working to much on this. Will the L24 oil pan fit in the S130? I think I read somewhere that it wont but it doesn't seem to be different.
Im pretty sure I set it to the same timing as an L28 (Im gonna use the 280ZX dizzy) And I dont need the ECU for the dizzy or the fuel pump right? So far under the valve cover everything looks really good almost new Will that cheap specter FPR for checker work for what I need? |
Hmm I wonder if I can make a new mount using that weird AC pump mount to use the PS... meh more work then its worth atm I'm pretty sure tomorrow Im putting the engine in my Z and putting it back together. Then Im gonna bypass the electric fuel pump and try using the mechanical one just to see if that engine will even run! I didnt get the air box as It wasn't there the second time I went back... so I need to get some air filters
Yes Im hyped about this a bit as I miss my Z lol |

the 2+2 and turbo flywheel is 240mm and the N/A coups are 225mm the clutches, pressure plates, and throwout bearing collars are different too |
Surface Area on the Flywheel, not the size of the flywheel itself!

* If it's 225mm wide then you have a coupe version which uses a 550lb pressure-plate. * If it's 240mm wide then you have a 2+2/turbo version with a 780lb plate and a wider disc. Flywheels are identical in diameter and weight at 23 lbs (only the contact area is wider). |
just making sure you know so you have the right flywheel clutch combo :023:
|
Nice save lol. Anyways They wont interchange so Im save and I dont feel like using my new clutch just yet when the old one is still good so Im gonna use my old one for this. pulling the tranny in this Z was easier then I thought lol
