Just ran my 280ZX in the Modball Rally
I guess it's about time I post about this, I recently ran in the inaugural USA running of the Modball Rally, which is basically a shorter (read: more affordable) version of the Gumball Rally. It's the same premise: drive all day, party all night. There were actually two groups running, a West Coast group, and an East Coast group, and we would ultimately meet in Vegas during SEMA. Most of the cars running were pretty high-horsepower stuff, like Corvettes, Maserati, Porsches, 350Z's, M5's, NSX, etc. Hehe, though the most interesting entry was these guys who showed up the first day in a Chevy Bel Air, but later turned up in a rented Smart car!
So you have all these low-slung sports cars, with the Smart "towering" in height over them, looking out of place, yet still somehow keeping up (at least up to about 90mph)!
The first leg of our trip was from SF down to LA, via Highway 1. That evening we had VIP access to the Playboy Halloween party in Hollywood. The following day, I suffered an unfortunate accident on the hotel escalator that necesitated an ambulance to the hospital. My ankle had gotten trapped between a piece of the metal lining of the escalator that'd come loose, and the still-moving stairs, chewing up the flesh a bit. >_<; Yeah....that kinda jacked up my day, especially since I was on my way to getting my car washed by girls in bikinis. The only good thing about it was that it made a nice icebreaker to chat it up with the Fuel Girls, who'd just flown in from London to perform for us that evening, hehe.
After San Diego, we made our way out to Phoenix, and from there, on to Vegas. We had the usual run-ins with the law as you would expect; even the Smart got a ticket at one point (I had an unpleasant confrontation with an undercover/off-duty cop, but no ticket thankfully). But yeah, despite my injury, I think I'll be doing this again next year.

Highway 1

hehe, the Maserati gets tee-pee'd by one of the guys

The Fuel Girls feel sorry for me. ^_~

The Smart is so much taller than everyone else!

Livin' it up on the last night in Vegas

Sorry! ^^; I thought about contacting some Vegas Z people, but I knew things were going to be too hectic for me to do anything. My schedule was so packed I only had 4 hours to spend at SEMA! =/
Haha, that was only part of it; they gave me a tetanus shot in my right arm, and didn't remind me that it was gonna ache for the next few days. If I'd have known that, I would've had them shoot it in my leg (it's already hurting!) or at least my left arm. So now both my shifting arm, and my clutching foot were all messed up!
On the day it happened, the organizer offered to swap cars, where he'd drive my Z and I'd drive his (rented) automatic Porsche Cayman. I tell ya, it was tempting...but I love my Z too much to let someone else drive it without me riding along, haha.
