The seat belts mount to the seat? huh I always figured they mounted to a rollcage or something

PurePontiacKid 07-26-2009 07:24 PM

Well, to be legal, I believe they have to mount to a harness bar or the cross tube in a rollbar setup...

I'm not sure but I bet you can probably run them off the rear strut towers. I've seen it on other cars but never a Z.

legal in race use the top of the harness needs to be mounted to a secure bar at shoulder height or higher otherwise it can shatter your spine. the bottoms i think can just bolt to the floor in a secure fashion obviously.

I actually put mine in the other day. I just used the rear seat mount bolt. It would be nice to have some racing seats so that the belt isnt too tight. But it does its job, I wont be going anywhere if i happen to roll over.

But thats just me...

Iv bolted them to the body and to the strut tower with different Z's

proper thing to do is have a harness bar tho

SHADY280 08-24-2009 08:17 PM

i bolted the top shoulder harness to the strut bolt with a bracket of 1/4" thick steel. the lap part was bolted to the floor using the outter factory sideways mount, and the other side just to the factory seat mounting bolt. it passes tech for autox, but the roadcourse is a maybe. they say the one to the strut tower is to far for the belts and they could stretch in a incident.
