Question How to tell if is a Stroker engine?

I bought an '83 280zx. The guy says it's a 3.1L Stroker engine. How can I tell?

Thanks!

With the paperwork, or tear into the engine. You can't tell just by looking at the engine.

You'd have to drop the oil pan and make sure the crank says "V07", and/or remove the head and measure the cylinder width. If it is truly a stroker, there are probably a lot of changes to the car... post some pics.

Thanks NismoPick! I'll get into it soon, keep y'all updated and try to get some pics up of it, as well.

Lettering on the crankshaft you mean? Anything that's not "V07".

I tried a different method because I was worried if about resealing the oil pan after taking it out to get to the crankshaft.
I researched and found that the piston stroke length of an l28 stock is 78mm. A stroker modification from 2.9L - 3.1L is 83mm.
I took a spark plug out and stuck a stable metal wire down the spark plug hole. I put the car in 4th gear, which I heard was an easier gear to roll with. We rolled the car until the piston went all the way down and marked it. then rolled it back the other until the piston went all the way up and marked it. Measured it and got 83.22mm. So with some leniency on the measuring, we'll say it's a Stroker!
