how to take out the a/c

hi i want to take out the hole a/c of my 1979 280zx clean with out damgeing anything help me out LOL

If there is still Freon in the system, technically (and legally) you have to take it to an a/c shop and have the system evacuated.

Then, you disconnect, and remove.

If you are a certified a/c tech or have the evac equipment, you can do it at home. I'm just stating the laws... you could always "google" something like "R12 freon evac" or something like that and find the illegal home way. I won't mention it here.

I ripped out my old system(no freon in system) and i regret it more then anything. driving it as a DD since 06, Mississippi summers with no A/C, yeh keep it man, it really aint hurting anything

i have to im a drifter i need all that weight gone dud but i live in sacromento and it gets hot and cooled but i dont care LOL if its going to make me faster then i have to LOL

I almost ripped out my dead AC system, glad I didn't because I have no interior and the inside of my Z gets really freaking hot! I retrofit it to use R-134a tho. was worth it!

Wow... Just because you're a drifter/racer/whatever, doesn't mean street practicality is supposed to go out the window. Losing the a/c won't net you anything except a really miserable summer.

If you want to go faster, gut your interior, save for a turbo motor swap, and invest in the suspension and tires. The a/c isn't even a drag on the engine, unless you're using it which even then isn't much. Much better to arrive in comfort than look like you've just completed a 10K race.

well the a/c dose not work and i dont like turbos to me thare gay ya it makes you go faster but you get turbo spool and the turbo dose not kick in when you want it lol had a turbo 280zx put 10k under the hood but civic still past me on the mountains LOL it not what you put in like big turbos and superchargers its all about how light your car is and how fast you go aroud turns ther more turns then stright on the mountain lol

alright, without beatin this guy up. Modern boost controllers and waste gates virtually eliminate boost lag, and really. you do want light, but practical gutting for a car you want to still be street legal, you might as well get a nsx, supra, or kit car. the A/C won't hurt you. and will be really easy to fix. If the compressor won't kick on, its probably just the low pressure switch not letting it come on. LSD, suspension, breaks, and tourqe are what you want for drifting.
