Help
Can someone tell me what the name of that pipe with the u shaped bend in it that goes into my intake manifold? Im assuming this is the charge pipe. Im still learning here.
Secondly i was given another one of those with a built in pop off valve which is ajustable, I was told it was from a z car. I know it would fit with a little modification, can i put this part on my 83 zxt? And lastly if i can use this part, would i just remove the old pop of valve and plug that port? |
any pictures?

Charge pipe / J-pipe. Nissan calls it "Tube inlet".
#17 right? http://static.nissan4u.com/epc_img/57331015821032.png http://z.modeltrainguide.com/albums/...0399.sized.jpg |
Thank you i thought so. Well i have a charge pipe with a built in pop off valve Would this be better to run than the original? Ill try to get a pic of this part up soon

Pop off valves (POV) are different than blow off valves (BOV).
POV is an emergency release valve in case the wastegate fails. BOV releases excess charged pressure when the throttle body is snapped shut, which keeps the turbocharger from stalling or reversing. |
Yes it is number 17 on that diagram. Im not sure ifr this charge pipe has a pov or bov built into it. i Have to get a camera so i post a pic of this thing. the pipe just has a fat cylinder shaped piece at the end of it the end towards the firewall. It has an adjustable spring inside

Does anyone know what this is on the charge pipe
|
ah... that's the old school BAE charge pipe. It's part of an aftermarket turbocharger kit for the 280Z. Yes, that is a pop off valve (does the same thing as the emergency release valve on the stock L28ET (turbo) intake manifold (the big round unit by the brake booster line)). You don't need it if you are still running the stock pop off valve on the intake.

Can i remove the stock pov and run the bae charge pipe?
|
You said it's adjustable right? If so, sure. You still have the stock wastegate on the turbocharger right?
|
sure do
|
Do I have to plug that port were the stock pov is. If so how could i do that?
|
If it doesn't open at full boost right now, then you're fine. If you increase the boost you may have to adjust it.

Thanks alot nismo

anyone know where i can get the rubber cuplings/sleeves? for this charge pipe, or the original charge pipe if i decide not to put the bae pipe on? Mine are all cracked.
|
Could i still install a bov if i run the bae charge pipe or would that be overkill? Also If i use the bae charge pipe could i remove the original pop off valve? And if yes, what would i use to plug that port. Input appreciated.
|
It would be advised to run a BOV if you install the older BAE charge pipe.
It looks as though the aftermarket unit is smaller. I see this as a downgrade in performance. You eliminate the factory bypass valve which acts as a bov between shifts and you're going through the trouble of removing and plugging the POV. All of this is unnecessary and potentially limits your intake airflow. |

i would rather be cooler because a stock 81 280zxt with a bov is cool, not fast :)
