ok i went to attempt to chance my rear brakes, ( disc) now we pulled off the wheels, bolts pins and pads, the caliper will not collapse.. we used TWO C clamps and they will not collapse and now id ontk now wat to do im FU**ing carless AGIAN literally everyweek for the last month , something has gone wrong, first week it was waterpump and something else i dont recal, next week a damn injector, lastweek it was a crank pully and this week my brakes. im gettin really irritated..please anything about my calipers leme know

caliper will not collapse ??? I guess that means you are trying to push the piston back in, to make room for the new pads? you have to twist them in... that is why they have the slots in them: to grab. Carefully use vice grips or a screw driver & twist them in.

EDIT: Frond caliper pistons are "pushed back in" w/ C-clamps... Rear caliper pistons are "TWISTED" back in.

You probably just destryed the caliper by trying to force it to collapse... the rear brakes have "Actuating Calipers" They need to be "SCREWED" in or out. That's what the notch is for. You have to twist them in and out... got it? Good luck. I hope you didn't destroy them.:)

LOL i always check my brakes i use a good pair of strong needle nose pliers to turn my rear pistons back to put in new pads or to check to see if the seals are bad etc. its eazy just relise the valve and turn the pistion clock wize eazy !!!!

Better pray! If they are the 79-81 calipers & got hosed... kiss them suckahs goodby & look for some in a junk yard... cuz rebuild kits are few & far between for them.

i have a junk yard 1982 turbo will work with non turbo 280zx left rear caliper its kinda rusty but i asssure u it works perfectly

And you're gonna be out about 90 bucks each at best for ReMans if you can find them...:)

79 - 81 & 82-83 rear calipers are quite difficult to interchange.

i remember not knowing that little trick when working on brakes for the very first time, so frustrating when its something so easy that gets the best of you :mad:

How about changing out the trailing a-arm from the later Z? (if someone wanted to change to the 'newer' brakes.

82-83 brakes are better in back, but I thinkt hey are harder to find and more expensive if you can find rebuilt ones from an auto store.
