havin a few issues
havin a few issues
alright i am havin a few issues with my car i would like to fix.
first ones a little more complicated but i just want to verify if what i think is corect.
my car idles and runs fine when its cold (finally) it took some tweaking and a new ignition coil and valve cover gasket but it doesent try to die when its cold, it still dips but in the normal range and everything is fine, seems to have more power when its cold as well (when the cold start shuts off). now shortly after i fixed this stuff i had another problem arise after about a month of fixing the cold start issues.
when its warm it smells a little rich and it has a funny idle, its not rough but its idle-------bumpt idle-----bump idle------------------bump ect....., depends on how warm it is it bumps more or less or if i have been driving alot it bumps more. now if i shut it off when its like this and i start it right back up its fine for a short while, almost as if its going through the steps to make sure the car is warmed up and making sure it isnt going to stall or before it starts taking readings from the sensors and is in defult mode for a moment.
now there is no real mods to the car unless you want to count the Blaster 2 MSD coil but in reality we all know that its a cheaper than OEM better spark replacment coil. i thought i could have been the AFM so i popped it apart and the tracks are good and i made sure it was the right tension and everything and that didnt help. and thinking the rich condition and the bumping were seperate i replaced the fuel pressure regulator with another i had arround that was newer. still nothing helps.....except my pressure is a little more stable with the newer one i think my old one was a bit worn out.
my thought is its the water temp sensor. what do you guys think?
its a '79 and it DOESENT have an o2 sensor. so i cant replace that.
the seccond problem is the rear defrost doesent work, i get a light and everything and it wont work at all, i could drive arround all day with the rear fogged up and nothing. i have taken a voltmeter to it and i get any where from 10.8v to 11.5v if i go from side to side at idle with various acessories turned on (lights, fan, ect.). from what i can tell if i go down the window all the lines get some ammount of voltage but then i start to lose track because its hard to hold your arms up and go one to one and look down at the volt meter at the same time.
the alternator is weak, i have been trying to sort out the maxima alternator thing but i need a v belt pulley like the one off of the stock alternator but it took me suck a long time to get the pulley off the max alt that i am probally going to want to get a seperate pulley so i dont have to take one off that was installed 30 years ago. the max alt is about a year old so i cna only imagine.
you guys think it could be my supply of voltage from the alternator or something else?
it supplies enough to keep the car running but its really struggling hard to keep a decent output with ANY acessory on, i dont have a radio at the moment and this is whats keeping me from putting one in.
long read i know but atleast i look and try things before i ask.
