halfshaft...

Hey guys, right now I'm trying to remove my left axle halfshaft off my '79 ZX to replace the u-joints. Well, I've removed the four bolts connecting the halfshaft to the wheel assembly but I can't get the end of the halfshaft separated from the part it was bolted up to. It's like it's stuck in place. I need to move the halfshaft up away from the wheel assembly so I can get to the bolt at the differential easier. But I can't get the shaft to budge. Any suggestions?! Thanks for any help.

Have you tried tapping with a hammer. Or if you are very careful you can start the car and put it in gear with the brakes on this should break the seal loose for you.

Are you trying to take the halfshaft out ? i havent had a good look at it but try to leaver it out using a tyre leaver :)

Well, I finally got the halshaft to break loose. I ended up putting on the emergency brake, and shifting the car into first and slowly letting the clutch out. Seemed to do the trick. Anyway, thanks for the help.

Your welocome that trick worked for me on a 240Z back in the 80,s.
Are you putting stock or modified u joints back in?

I am just putting in stock replacement u-joints in...what other kind of u-joints are there? oh yeah, i am having trouble getting the bolt out of the differential on the halfshaft. It's hard to get out and I'm afraid im gonna strip it too much...last time this happened on the other halfshaft and i ended up having to take a reciprocating saw to it.... that got the halfshaft off though. :D

Motor sports has some heavy duty ones for autocross racing. They can take a lot more abuse on launch and heavy downshifts. I have them on my 78Z.:D
