Going to have the turbo dyno tuned whats a safe Psi to run?

Well made my appt today for the 79 ! Next Friday. Id just like to confirm what a safe level of boost to run? " 60 k + life" don't want to fry the motor ;) I'm running a GT30R turbo. Factory pistons and rods. Head has been rebuilt and Have a grind A cam. Arp studs. Id like to stay around 12 PSI or am I being a nanny? Currently running 9 lbs. Guys at the shop feel I can get around 290 t0 300 hp with my setup. Be nice lol I'm very new with turbo chargeing. But id like to know a high limit of boost while I'm there. Thanks

How many miles do you have on the motor now?

I wouldn't dyno it until you have completely broken it in.
And are you running stock injectors? Stock ecu? Intercooler?

Felpro head gasket? MLS?

As Nismo pointed out this is a big one. Even with upgraded ecu, fuel system, etc I you shouldn't run above 12psi. I wouldn't go above 10.

Unless I am mistaken the stock fuel system won't run much higher than 12 anyway.

Also I assume you've got a BOV installed made changes/removed the POV?

Just hit 854 on the "trip". Work is 50 miles round trip so I'm 250 per week plus the daily running around should be 1250 miles by next week. I have a spearco intercooler. It has venom injectors fuel pump they chose not sure of the brand off the top of my head. Same with the head gasket. The shop owner matched the parts up to work with the Gt30 turbo and lastly I have the mega squirt harness and they did whatever to the ecu. . . . . I didn't want any dealings with this as a DYI project. Lol I know about the same as my grandmother as far as a turbo build. Yea shrimp my hermit did say id have to stay around 9 to 13. So this is just a baseline run may change a few things see how it goes. Quickly annoying the wife so may just leave it alone for a year or so lol. Thanks guys

With 93 octane (going by your location listed), you can probably run about 14-15psi daily and have it tuned to 18-20 psi for short spurts without any negative ramifications. I am assuming your injectors are at least 440cc or larger. I ran 15-17 psi on a T3/T4 turbo for 4 years on 91 octane with no issues except one bhg due to the stock head gasket being over 25 years old. This was on 440cc injectors before I went to a JWT setup which was 596cc injectors according to them.

It really depends on your fuel sytem/managment, and how aggressive of a tune you want. You east coast guys have a better safety threshold against detonation than us west coast drivers.

Now should I wait Nismo? They said 1000 to 1500 It should be pretty much broken in? Did 2 oil changes and she's running great.

Yeah, if you are over 1k miles, you should be fine.

^^^ This.

Without knowing the injector size and tune they used, there's no way of telling how much hp it will put out. The stock injectors max out at about 260hp... that's where I'm at right now, usually running 10-12psi. I've got a set of 300cc GNX injectors that I will put in one day if I ever get around to it.

...and what ECU are you running? If it's Megasquirt you can retard the timing based on your boost levels. Stock ECU has no tuning ability other than tweeking the AFM.

Pictures of your setup or it didn't happen ;P

Lol Like I said no clue what theey did as far as the wireing. I let them go and make them calls. But from what I'm hearing it should be around twelve all said and done. Just don't want them cranking it over kill and have the engine go at 20 k. As seen by a 89 probe with the owner "my buddy" spilling. Bits of piston and block all over my dam street showing off!

Find out what they put in there. If you're running a GT30R you've got lots for your engine because the turbo itself is very efficient so it makes more boost with less heat. You should get 300rwhp easily but it's all in the tune. I repeat it's all in the tune. Just to clarify it's all in the tune. Find a reputable tunner. Find out if you have an ECU you can tune. Look at your bill - it should tell you what you were paying a zillion dollars for....
