sorry about the title i meant to say the tension rod bushing fell off not the rod
so i was reversing out of my driveway and i see this little red piece on the ground and it turned out to be a bushing to my right tension rod, im gonna fix it asap but i was wondering if this has happened to anybody else.

..and get rid of the urethane bushings in your TC rod before it breaks at the least opportune time..... call this a warning shot before something serious happens.

mrprofile 08-30-2011 04:46 PM

why? ive seen many people on the forums do this without a problem so i decided to do it when i rebuilt my suspension.

FricFrac 08-30-2011 11:20 PM

There have been quite a few people who have used the urethane bushings that have had thier TC rod break. It's pretty common knowledge now that you don't want to mess around with your TC rods and urethane bushings. Search this forum and others and you'll see many threads discussing it. But hey, what do I know....

So true. I broke 4 tension rods in one month, just cause I'm that amazing... learned here that it was most likely due to the urethane bushings (and possibly another problem). My supply ran dry so I replaced the tension rods with the TechnoToyTuning tension rods and all is good, for now.

Without T3 tension rods, I'd be living on the streets. Now I can take on the world.

NismoPick 08-31-2011 07:35 PM

Wow! And I thought they changed my life just when I opened the box... :unibrow:

Im no expert but if i installed the flashy TC rods would that cause other problems down the line, like if i took a hard turn that would usually break the old TC rod but not this one would that break something not as easily replaced like the tension rod bracket or the lower arm?

Just replace the tension rod bushings with new rubber ones or mix half & half. I did the half mix after snapping a tension rod in my '82 with new urethane bushings. Sooo scary! Happened on the highway, without warning...

The TC rod is the weak point by a significant amount. Yes there will be another weak point if you upgrade to the TTT mothers but it's going to require a significant force like being in an accident to reach that next weak point (probabaly the mounting points) - not normal or agressive driving....

seems logical i might just put stock rubber bushings in its place, (if i have them) to save money.

The frame of your car will bend before the T3 rods will break. They are used in rally racing without issue.
