Flywheel removal tips

Any tips for removing a flywheel in my 83 280ZX? Or is it just a brute force type deal?

have an air powered impact wrench to break them flywheel bolts loose, then it should come off with little rocking motion. just try and get some good ARP flywheel bolts when you re-install it though.

x2 on the impact. Or have a ratchet on the crank pulley along with a pipe attached to it, against the ground.

i broke three ratchets and four breaker bars trying that, then just got fed up with driving to sears and bought myself a nice snap on air powered impact. either way its gonna suck getting the flywheel off, especially if its still in the car.

edit 1-be prepared for the motor to turn over or your harmonic balancer bolt coming loose if you do it without an impact.

Would the car still be likely to turn over if you've got the battery disconnected? I mean there wouldn't be any current to power the ignition or fire the injectors.

i meant, as you have so much force being applied to it, that you physically turn the motor over by hand

try a breaker bar instead of a rachet against the ground
