First Time 280zx buyer. Help!!

Hey guys, this my first time buying an 280zx. I just wanted to ask ya'll a few questions. I am looking @ a 10th anniversary 1980 280zx.
It has 164k, auto, 3 small rust spots where the spare tire is. He say it has been sitting for awhile. he also "SAID" he did a tune up, new radiador, and whole new disbutor.(he kinda sounded fishy, but i have looked at it soooo....)
Paint looks good!!

1. How much do u think it should go for?
2. Any other questions i should ask?

Thanks for the help!!!

id say for a car in good condition like that.. id test drive it and if all checked out.. 3000 seems very very reasonable.. esp. for a 10th anniversary ed.

always low ball it. if he says 2500, say 2000. it never hurts, and he cant deny selling the car to you, just for you asking for a lower price.

Not so. Many people don't like being insulted by a low offer and may just refuse to deal with you at all. 500 less isn't that bad of an offer, but if you offered him 1000 or so he might get mad and not sell you the car.

agreed. should've made myself more clear. I'd say 500 less is a reasonable offer.. Plus it all depends on how eager someone is to get rid of a car.

Thanks again for all the help.

To answer some of the Questions.

The paint is two tone gold and brown (hood is brown and so is the bottom trim around the car and the fenders and doors are gold.)

It is an auto tranny. and is power stearing(i think), window, locks and what not.

I am gonna bring 2700 in cash and see if he takes it

He is telling me it is still in the shop. So i am gonna have to wait and see it.
It was gonna be finshed today but didn't happen. I wanted to see it tomorrow, but looks like i am gonna have to wait til this weekend.

OH! he also said the clear on the piant job was to thick in spots sooo i might end up having to sand it down and reclear it. but it is okay my stepdad is a manger of a bodyshop !!

i will keep ya'll updated if i get it

Thanks again.

I love how black can throw in a comment about Fred Savage, when he's talking about drifting, and by doing so, I will have this puzzled look on my face for the rest of the day

As far as the auto v. manual, this is a subject that's never going to be laid to rest. I side with manual, even though I have an auto (that used to be manual) speed or no speed, it's just more fun to be driving a manual tranny. If you are against auto, due to not feeling as "in control" of your car, do as I did, buy a B&M Shifter.. those are fun.

the autos are to never be underestimated.. just cuz its auto does NOT mean it cant be fun.. ad if you go from low-2-drive.. you can control your gearing.. and when going in drive.. that kick down can be quite insane when pulling a corner at 45 ... yes manual may be good.. but when i drift i prefer that auto otherwise your just movin all over the place.. brake, turn, clutch, downshift, accelerate, release clutch, turn more, accelerate more, steady yourself... too much to do when pulling a corner at 45.. or any other speed for that matter whether youre drfiting on a track or the road

If for no other reason, buy it because of those ultra cool little headlight washers. Those things are BadAss. Seriously, 3k sounds pretty good for a decent 10th anniversary car. I've never seen gold/brown combo, but have seen the standard gold/black and red/black. If the interior is good, and the body is straight and rust free/low rust, it could be a steal at 3k. Altough, painting it anything other than how it left the factory (color wise) would de-value the car somewhat.

Hey I got those washers on my '82! It was pretty easy to add them on. And yeah they are kind of cool!

what's the deal with cars from the eightys??? 90% of them were brown... like the anniversary edition. with a name like anniversary edition, it should have been something kick ***!! like a color that would scream "DAMMIT, I've been here ten years!!! bow before me, I've got laser beams in my headlights, ****er!!!" but a brown/gold combo? that's more like a "Please don't hurt me!" color...

just thinking aloud..
