Fan Clutch 280zx
 

I got a problem w/my 280zx on the fan clutch. I recently bought a fan clutch for the car but it was a replacement and the original i had was bigger then the one i bought now and now the car over heats alot then my original fan clutch. The problem w/the original was that it was very tight and made noise...so i bought a replacement but it over heats alot...how can I buy the original or get one better that resist the temp. of the engine?

What shape is the radiator in? Is the fan clutch an OEM one? You can try some of that Redline stuff to see if that helps cool the car any, otherwise you might need to get the right fan clutch.

You can try pulling the fan clutch apart and adding gear oil 90-180W.. Because what happened the oil inside dried up. So that is what made it lock up. Get your old one and pull it apart I forgot how many bolts it has but I believe is a size 10mm. Is not difficult but just becareful with the gasket and the thermal coil I think that is what they call it. I know there is a way becasue I have copies of different procedures. and I actually did this one about 2years ago and I have no problems with overheating anymore. good luck.

The radiator and everything is the original but that fan clutch is smaller and thinner than the stock one....and it doesnt make the tight noise but it overheats...the stock one i had was very tight and it made noise but it neva overheated...and also the stock one is bigger than the one i bought, so now im looking for tha original one but i cant find it, i dont trust the remanufactured ones.

I tried dat b4 to tha fan clutch but it keeps making a tight noise while its running...then when i turn it off i try rotating and its smooth but then after a while running it gets tight and it just make lots of noise like a whistling burst of air.

thats because it has to engauge to cool the car ? but it sounds like you radiator is blocked as i drove round with a stuffed fan clutch and didnt over heat
