I've been driving all over today getting things I needed to do done and I finally come home and park my Z and it was fine for about 5 min and I hear a pop and I see coolant on the ground under my car.

The ****ing timing cover blew out. And I don't have the time nor money to fix it. And this pile of crap is my only car left to drive.

I love these Z cars to death but **** stupid shit like this gets on my nerves.

ummm.... I think you mean the water pump gasket blew... which is an easy fix. it costs 5 bucks.

Unless it's a dead water pump, then it's an easy fix and $25 for a cheap one from Kragen/ORielly.

No you can see it pouring out between the block and the timing cover right next to where the lower radiator hose comes in.

Did you use the Felpro gasket or RTV when you installed it?

Interesting... I would say the gasket wasn't seated properly, because if anything should blow from too much pressure in the coolant system, it SHOULD be the rad cap. What pressure is your rad cap?

I actually just inspected it very carefully and I found the bolts around that area where barely tight. (Mind you I told the machinist that rebuilt my motor to use a felpro gasket and to use a good gasket glue with it to keep it from doing this!) So thats probably nearly all of the issue. And the cap is stock 13lbs

It already is a big PITA as I'm gonna have to walk 4 or 5 miles to class at 6AM come Monday as I have no money to fix it right now.

Damn and I just put a new oil pan gasket on this engine too. and I sealed that up tight as well so its going to tear it. ****

Part out the TT, you can get a shit ton of money off of that thing and use it to fix/keep up the DD.

I'm saving the TT seeing as how the body is straight and clean. But if worse comes to worse I will.

Its not the water pump its the timing cover

I'm gonna ask him Monday what hes going to do about it.

See if you can borrow some money. The timing cover kit was $16 and some change from Napa for me. Anyway, I am sure there is somebody that can help you out. Good luck man.

Well I got $100 (TRIED to fix a friends car, damn american ecno-car) So now I'm trying to decide if I should just yank the motor (and leave the trans in if possible) and replace the rear main seal, oil pan gasket, and timing cover gaskets in one go. Or if I should just leave the motor in the car and try not to tear the oil pan gasket taking the timing cover off.

If the oil pan gasket was just recently put on, then you should be able to re-use it. Just remember when replacing the timing cover gasket to copper coat both sides.

I did just put it on about... a month ago? but I used a copper coat on it as well thats why I'm thinking no matter what I'm gonna tear it.

If you make sure it's tightened it won't. :biggrin: Especially under coolant.

Er... What? I don't think were both talking about the oil pan gasket

this isn't rocket science man, just drop the pan bolts so it is loose and then pull the radiator and then the front cover. you can get this done in a day.


also, there is no way you can pull the motor and leave the trans in there, it will NEVER line back up when going back in... if the rear seal is bad pull it all and just go through any gaskets you have any doubts on and get it all done in one shot.

Believe it or not. I gambled when putting my timing cover back on. My oil pan gasket was actually torn, and such. I just used a lot of blue RTV in hopes that it wouldn't leak. Well sure enough, it is still leak free. So I lucked out. So all in all, I am sure you will be pretty safe, by redoing the timing cover gasket. Just use the blue RTV, it is the best kind. Trust me man. And good luck.

Alright Going to napa today to get the parts, I'm getting a new water pump as the one I have has the stamped steel impellers that apparently don't work for shit.

Guess while I'm at it I'll install the dizzy shaft right lol

Well got the cover off, the gasket just pealed off the timing cover of course, the machinist didn't freaking seal it at all! And of course, I tore the entire front of the oil pan gasket off. Bleh

One part at a time will be getting here so thats annoying as all hell. I couldnt get the lower rad hose off at all so I had to cut it, If I had more money I'd go get the radiator dipped.

Frustrations abound!!! Sorry man, that's usually how my luck goes too.
