Electrical Short On Dash & Sensor Light On

Out of nowhere I now have an electrical short. I keep having a 10 amp fuse blow which causes the the following items not to work: Oil pressure gage, clock, dome light, door lights and other items I haven't found out yet. I took it to the shop and the electrician couldn't find the short without spending numerous hours. The sensor also stays on when running and I don't know if thats part of the problem. Any suggestions? "THE WIFE" is getting really mad as it seems all I do is constantely fix little problems with my son's 83 280ZX which has a 5 spd if that makes any difference. I am at the point that I will try anything. Thanks Dan:075:

well the sensor light is supposed to be unplugged under the dash by the dealer at an early milage reading, so ive read somewhere, somebody has probably plugged it back in. correct me if im wrong guys. the 10 amp fuse blowing could be because it may be too low of amperage, you may want to check a manual, i thought it should be 15 amp. or put a 30 in its place, your sure to find the problem then, itll blow, then you can buy a replacement of one of us! but seriously, try removing the glovebox, then you can see the back of the guages on the right. then unplug one component at a time, then replace the fuse each time, then it may narrow it down a bit, then replace as ness. also you say its your sons car, now being a kid myself, was there an alarm installed or stereo install recently? they may have attached something to the circuit not knowing, or piched a wire during the install. try those and report back

Shady thanks for the info. No alarm or stereo installed recentely. I took the car to the shop for the blown fuse & heater blower problem. They fixed the heater so it blows, but didn't find why the fuse was blowing. This is a new problem and it's mind boggling. I am thinking of taking a auto electrical class at the local community college since that is one thing I am not familiar with when working on cars.

the sensor light can be fixed by unplugging it. take the bottom panel off the passenger side and there will be a green wire with a red stripe rapped on the outside of the harness pack, simply unplug it and no more light, as for the fuse if your model came with the bosch running lights disable them and that should do the trick, had the same problem a few months ago, by disabling i mean look under the hood right in front of the shock tower and there will be a plug with bosch on it.
