ecu

how can i read the codes from my ecu if i dnt have a computer connection nor the two lights that flash on the computer?

There are no ecu codes for the 280zx... download the FSM (www.xenons130.com/reference) :023:

Why won't my 280ZX ECU tell me what is wrong and how to fix it? ...I have to read a stupid book?

Welcome to old school trial and error mechanics.

Knowledge and know how. FSM.

ECU of this period

About the old ECU and it sensors: Some of this was in the turbo supplement 1981
But if you ask yourself verbally, when trying to solve a problem with this ECU
you will come up with an answer.
Example "Why doesn't the ECU know I've the pedal to the floor, boosting but no power?"
Answer: The computer does not know it's boosting, what sensor has failed.
See below.....

How analog design connects to the digital age...
Read that FSM and Supplement as a novel.
Odd examples
( the tach needle is magnetic, on the face of the tach are two dots. The pickups are at 700 and 850 rpm, after cold start period
the computer adjusts the fuel to stay between those two dots. )
(Also the computer is in open loop until
the oil temp is above 160 degrees,
then in closed loop it asks the O2 sensor "does it smell too rich?"
and adjusts the fuel and writes to ECU the current numbers in the CPU for the next startup )
After 15 minutes and it is ready to spool the turbo. The power is back!

Yes the computer and it's sensors are crude by todays OBD-II standards, but you got to love it.
Examples the TPS only knows closed plate or not. ( does not know the amount of open )
The answer to why doesn't it know.....A defective boost sensor or open pressure tube.
And the Boost sensor on the left fender has one tube ( positive pressure ) to close an electrical switch to tell the cpu switch to map 3 boost - map 1 idle - map 2 driving no boost

John, are those ECU features in the 280ZX ECU? Sounds more like 1987+ ECU technology.

The boost sensor on the fender is just for the gauge.

The L28ET ECU can barely tie it's own shoes. The L28ET ECU is full on digital - it just doesn't have any of the features you mentioned...

...

FricFrac - After reading the FSM 81zxt - I admit it's just an amplifier- but it looks like in AT cars it sets the kick down switch. That was the symptom. My error.
