drivetrain thunk/clunk/whatever
So, I just limped another Z home (83 NA slicktop) the tranny is stuck in 4th gear , but much to the displeasure of the clutch I drove it 50 miles to its new home.
Anyhow, this is my second Z and and both seem to have the same drivtrain issue, so I think that it may be common to these cars. Whenever hitting the accelerator hard or lifting up after accelerating hard, there is a nice thunk from the rear end accompanied by the feeling that the rear suspension is moving. I am guessing that it is probably the dif mount? Does anyone know what I am talking about? Is this fairly common to these cars? If so is the problem the dif, or is it something else? Thanks! Justin PS - I'll start a thread with pics of the new Z when I get a chance to snap a few. |
Yep... search for "clunk" in the 280zx sections.

peel your carpet back behind the seat, thats a good start, could be nothing there, otherwise, check the clunk search.
