Do not allow a girl to drive your Z!

Anyway, I allowed my girlfriend to use my car all day while I worked on hers, and when drove up damn, it stunk of brakes. Sure enough she left the parking brake up the whole day...... :022:

Anyway, now I put the parking brake on and I can push the car from the out side. Before I start going at it, what do you yall think it's going to be?

Thanks,
wgc_3

New Pads Rotors And Calipers, Might Have To Install A New Girlfriend.

thxone 12-08-2006 08:43 PM

Just stop using the parking break....can't really blame the chick too much as it was probably up before she took the car...right, if she never knew to use it or disengage it then well ya know...just get new pads and mark it up as experience. She will know next time if you didn't blow up too much at her. At least she didn't blow the engine or wreck the car. These things just, how do you say, just happen...at least you have a girlfriend.

^ Are you kidding??? wgc is right, if she cant even remember to put the damn ebrake down then she shouldn't be driving the Z. I use my ebrake all the time, so mine always has to be put down. Of course, I know you automatic people dont like to fiddle with the ebrake :p

RodMoyes 12-08-2006 08:49 PM

That could have done a lot of damage. Hopefully, it didn't cook the wheel bearings along with whatever brake parts it roasted.

You need to take it apart and inspect it very well...

Rod.

wow... was it like... all the way up. how the **** did she not notcie somethign was wrong when the car didnt want to move... holyl crap.. yeah. if your bearings are ****ed you might be able to just adjust teh brake cable and tighten it up and then replace the pads sooner... and might want to think about rotors to.

If she wasn't use to driving the Z why would she think about the E-brake? And was that a crack on us auto tranny people? :037: Not to many "hills" here in central Florida :unibrow:

And snw, you know the Z is the most powerful car in the world so even with the E-brake on it will still go :038:

jfairladyz 12-08-2006 09:49 PM

I've NEVER been in a car that didnt have an E-brake, be it floor mounted (my old stang), under the dash (my F150) or between the seats (every other car I've owned). That said, why would being in a Z be an excuse not to check to make sure the ebrake is disengaged. I dont know, maybe its just me...I always check.

icice9 12-08-2006 10:49 PM

how could she not the the BIRGHT RED BRAKE LIGHT in the dash board... Rods right.. she could have done far worse damage on the car other than jsut pads and rotors... but man.. id be pissed!!!!

It'd be even more embarrasing if it was one of the years with the talking lady. I know my year tells me my "parking brake is on" lol....
siiigh :075:

wgc_3 12-09-2006 07:10 AM

No I'm not pissed, but not happy with the whole thing. But there isn't much I can do, as most of you know I just ordered new pads, and new rotors last couple of weeks. Well, I guess next time she'll know!

Just wondering how would it cook the bairings if the wheel was moving? I could see how it could mess up the cable, pad, and rotor, but I'm unclear on how the bairings would be messed up?

Thanks,

I am just saying...it happens. When I had my '67 Fairlane I FORGOT that I had set my E-brake and I drove around for a bit like that till I got where I was going...the whole way people were honking and pointing, but I was use to that anyway because of the car. When I got there and all the smoke came forward, yeah I was a little embarrased. Out of habbit, I check my E-brake everytime I get in the car if I use it or not. These are pics from before I got the car from my brother...my car was the green sentra...oh the stereo I put in that car...never used the E-brake in that car though. :111:

It was a 1967 with the drivetrain from a 1993 GT Mustang just how it came out of the Mustang with Fuel Injection and the AOD tranny...fun car.

wreckedj30 12-09-2006 10:23 AM

sick, thats pretty much whats going into my falco, but i'm kind of swaying toward a 4.6 dohc cobra motor six speed. Hmm decisions decisions...i really want it supercharged, but then what do i do with the 302/aod, maybe the zx. No i want a manual.

snwbrderphat540 12-09-2006 10:33 AM

how would it not frie the bearings... they are right there in the rotors... brake is on... gets so incedibly hot you wouldnt believe... slowly fries teh grease in it... expands the ball bearings dries tehm out.. they sieze up.. the car will still move.. it will move just fine... but its still bad. BAD. just cause your bearings fail doesnt mean the car will not roll.

RodMoyes 12-09-2006 10:58 AM

^ Well, almost...

Bad bearings (Especially on the rear) can KILL you! When they sieze, they can come apart. I had one disintegrate 2 years ago on the way to the MSA show at 75MPH on the freeway and in the rain. It wasn't pretty or fun when all of a sudden my car made a loud clunk noise and started spinning wildly out of control. How I kept from hitting anything before coming to a stop is a miracle.

Rod.

snwbrderphat540 12-09-2006 11:09 AM

haha.. well a catastrophic failure like that of coarse. especially in the rear where its lighter.

wgc_3 12-09-2006 11:14 AM

Thank you for the education on the bairings now that makes sense to me how they can go bad with the brake on. Well this just plain sucks!

Happy Holidays,

wgc_3 12-09-2006 11:33 AM

WOW!

Let me see if I have this correct, there are two cables on the car a front and then a rear which seperates the right and left brake?

Unforunatly I will not have time to get a good look until Tuesday, (day off).

Thanks,
wgc_3

have her help you replace the brakes. It'll be a fun activity for the two of you and she'll remember it every time she drives ANY car! :D
