Digital Speedomiter Cluster Removal

Digital Speedomiter Cluster Removal
Does anybody know if it's possible to remove the digital speedomiter cluster from a 83 280zx without removing the entire dash? I know you would probably have to remove the steering wheel & lower the steering column, also remove the lower pannels to get at the cable, but is it possible without screwing up the dash? Thanks for any assistance as I am tired of driving my "Girlfriend" the sweet little 280ZX with only the tack to judge my speed (the speedomiter shows only a "0").

Yep...
-Remove steering wheel
-Remove combination switch plastic cover
-Remove combination switch unit
-Remove gauge cluster screws (two upper, two lower)
-Reach up from under the dash & unscrew the speedo cable
-Out comes the cluster
Are you going to fix the digital speedo / replace it? Just an FYI... the analog gauges use a different wiring harness.

Thanks for the info. I have an extra analog & digital cluster which I will use since it's too much trouble to change out the wiring harness which I have also. I bought 2 280zx's off eBay (both had terminal rust) so I cut them up, but not before stripping all the good parts off of them. My wife (bless her sole) is constantly complaining about all the spair parts I have stored in both the garage & storage shed. My boys and I have 3 280z's so I am keeping the parts which include 2 engines (which run), a 5 speed stick & 4 speed automatic which I had completely rebuilt including the torque converter (I will never use). I am a pack rat. Anyways I drive my little sweetie and once I get the speedomiter fixed, a/c & a paint job I will post some pictures on the site. She runs like a scared rabbit and I love her almost as much as the wife (well not quite as much). I knew somebody could help me as I am still learning some of the tricks when working on a Z car (This is my first foreign sports car). Sincerely BigEkak1941

Anyway I will probably convert my '83 to analog. Also I am going to convert it to manual climate control. Because automatic climate control sucks. lol Anyway shouldn't be too difficult to convert. Or if you want, just get another digital cluster. They are a dime a dozen on ebay. lol
