The dead horse

Well, I'm gonna raise this question again as I've searched for days and haven't found a definitive answer. I have an 81 n/a and am wanting to install the n42 non-egr manifold for aesthetic reasons. I'm also looking at cleaning up the manifold of misc. hoses and such. What can I get rid of and what can I not. The sticky on this subject deals with a egr type manifold and I didn't really know if it could apply to this one. Also, I didn't know if I had to have the after market fuel rail and computer to run the manifold, or if the 81 computer would still work or the 76 computer that I also had would be needed. I was planning on running the O2 sensor to make up for the egr being gone, but I also noticed the 76 motor doesn't have one. Any thoughts on what all will work with this manifold and what won't. I'm on a limited budget right now so I was just trying to piece this together until I can get the aftermarket fuel rail and stuff. Thx in advance

its just a manifold not a complex system. Do you have to have smog checks where you live? The egr is just for smog reasons nothing else.

1. no other computer is needed your 81 will work fine.

2. no you don't need to have an aftermarket fuel rail the stock one will work fine.

All the L28 intakes have the same setup for fuel injectors.

The sticky thread is a pretty good one to reference your questions. Re-read it.

You'll need the 81 harness to run the 81 ecu. :D

An O2 sensor ecu will work on a non-O2 sensor setup? I can foresee many problems with that. :D

The INTAKE manifold has nothing to do with the O2 sensor.
But you don't want to do away with that. O2 sensors are your friend. Leave it on the manifold. If you change to headers, get one with an O2 sensor bung.

Yeah, I'm definitely keeping the o2 sensor. I guess I just wanted to know if there were any differences (other than the egr) between the two intake manifolds. I didn't see many n/a's with the swap done so I was just wondering if it was a problem or not.

Oh, and thanks for the help:)

I took my time and typed this up for a reason. :)

Yes, and it's a very good write-up. But it doesn't tell me if there is a difference between the the 81 intake and the 76 intake. Other than the egr anyway. Not trying to be an a$$ or anything, I just wanted to know before I ripped into the other motor and took everythng apart.

hmmm.... so like, i dont have to do emmisions so can i just pull every hose i want other than the brake assistant and vacumer advance! lol. but seriosly. hehe

Edz280zx 03-03-2007 10:20 AM

Well, if the manifolds are the same other than the egr, I guess I'll use the n42 intake as it has a cleaner look.. again, thanks for all you guys help.
