crane cams

i was looking threw my black dragon auto catalog andi saw this crane cam in there. i was woundering it anyone has gotten it and if it really gives you 10% more power

NismoPick 05-15-2008 08:06 PM

Dude...

Do you mean a Crane Cams ignition component or a cylinder head CAMSHAFT?

lifegrddude 05-15-2008 10:30 PM

For reals. If it's the ignition stuff, no it won't be 10% increase. Even on my turbo Z all it did was clear up misfiring towards the top end of the rpm band. The camshaft too won't be a 10% increase unless you have a lot of mods under the hood. A stock motor would be happy to see ~10 hp over baseline.

well i was talking about the camshaft, so your saying i need a lot more with it in order to get the most out of it

What's the BDA part# or what page is the cam on? I looked through the whole catalog & couldn't find any Crane Camshafts... I might have overlooked it though.

if you want a real cam thats cheaper check out insky cams.

scorpionp54 05-16-2008 07:58 PM

Ah... you're looking in an old catalog. :D I see it in the older catalogs... it's not in the Spring 08 one. I imagine they dropped that cam from inventory. Check out the latest version on their website: http://www.blackdragonauto.com/icatalog/z/t.aspx

It's actually ISKY Cams. :D Check their site: http://www.iskycams.com/partnum_temp...&go.x=0&go.y=0

scorpionp54 05-16-2008 08:46 PM

how reliable is the isky cam

That question doesn't really make sense in reference to a cam... Reliability would be a question for HOW it was installed and WHO did the install. It's not like they are machining it out of wood. Isky is a very well known & used company. Check out www.google.com and search away. :D

scorpionp54 05-17-2008 09:52 AM

ok thanks guys i'll check it out and report back if i get it

NismoPick 05-17-2008 12:44 PM

I suggest doing research on LIFT and DURATION before buying a cam. You need to decide what application you need.

Yes, a cam by itself will net you only marginal gains. Intake, header, exhaust and head work all contribute and each individually is only marginal. Together, they exceed the sum of their parts.

you could look up lift and duration, or just think about what each word means lol.
