Car jerking and Stalling

Hey guys I just got my first z at the age of 18! It is a 1979 280zx which I bought off a guy that really cared about it but basically his time with it was done. He says he left the car sitting for a year and would turn it on every other week. The problem with it is that after being driven less than 10 miles the car starts to slowly jerk and when i stop the car just turns off or stalls. Another thing that had happened is that at a stop light the car also turned off once and then it proceeded to work finely, it turn on again after like 10 seconds though. This is the main problem that I have at the moment. I will be fully honest I have not worked on cars that much and need help on trying to figure out what is wrong with it. Just so I can get it on the road fully without worrying about it turning off on me while driving.

First thing I would do is get a fuel pressure guage and install it between the fuel filter and the engine and see if the pressue is dropping out on you and stalling the car. You will need to be able to see the guage while driving so configure the guage accordingly. You can always take the hood off for the test. Have a friend help if you do and mark where the bolts are in the hinge so you can get it back in the correct place. Could be just the fuel filter. Start with the simple stuff.
