Camber?

Should the back tires on your Z cars have a noticeable negative camber? Or is that a bad thing?

Yes I know my shocks are bad but I think the front is much worse then the back so Im just curios lol

NismoPick 03-20-2009 11:31 AM

The 280zx usually doesn't have any negative rear camber on a stock setup. If any, it's a bit of positive camber.

BlueKitsune 03-20-2009 11:36 AM

Er... So ya that means my back shocks are more then likely going out too huh? Next paycheck can not come any sooner lol

Negative is facing inward right? to the car? I like the way the car handles like that but it cant be good on the tires

NismoPick 03-20-2009 11:40 AM

Not shocks... the springs. Shocks dampen the bumps, the springs control the rebound, and ride height.

Indeed neg camber is when the tops of the tires point inward.

Nismo wrong!!!! :103:

280zx's, at least mine (as proven by a hunter hawkeye running winalign software) has several degrees of non adjustable negative camber on the rear wheels stock...

something weird just happened... :paranoid:

There is no nonadjustable camber. There is "difficult to adjust" camber ;)
And a little negative camber is a good thing as someone here mentioned I think.

How do you even know yours is at stock ride height?
My 280ZX is seemingly stock but it rides really high in back. I'm not the original owner so I can't say what kind of springs are in the car anyway.

Plus, some springs sag over time and you end up with some negative camber.

BlueKitsune 03-20-2009 03:55 PM

sho_shane 03-20-2009 03:58 PM

My bet is that your springs are just wore out.

if you have ever done an alignment you would know that it gives you the stock measurements for toe, camber, caster and some other one that no one cares about, stock 280zx's have some degree of negative camber on the rears from factory (mine had a little more than factory because of my worn out 25 year-old suspension) but it is NON ADJUSTABLE, yes there is such a thing as non adjustable rear camber (and im not talking about aftermarket camber plates) im talking about the stock system that i assume Bluekitsune has

warning, blue! don't believe anything 2by2 says unless someone reputable on here agrees/backs him up.

BlueKitsune 03-20-2009 08:44 PM

lol I have no clue what to say to that.

But I remember hearing elsewhere that Z do have a slight negative camber on the back for handling so he may be right

But mine its really noticeable

snwbrderphat540 03-20-2009 09:38 PM

almost any RWD car has slight negative camber, but i mean SLIGHT

BlueKitsune 03-20-2009 09:47 PM

Even a solid axle car!? Yes Im kidding lol but ya this isnt slight this is "What the hell with with your tires?" bad

So even if I adjust the inner pivot points on the control arms by welding or slotting it wont' change anything? :017:

Glad I asked you first though... :023:

if your tires sit inside of your fenders a good bit it will apear that you have really negative camber because of the lines of the car, you can get on the ground and look lengthwise down the car and try to judge, or do the straight edge and protractor thing on a level surface

again if you had ever done an alignment you would know what im talking about... there is a screen that tells you the manufacturers recomended specifications, no car necessary, just click and print...

epic fail of your noobness snw:012:

snwbrderphat540 03-21-2009 11:22 AM

yeah, so.... it wont say if its adjustable though.... i got alignment sheets in my room, i know what on them. i wanna punch those stupid glasses right into your face right now!

seriously though... those glasses are terrible, they are much to small for your face, make you look like a hippy or something.
