Brake calibers

Do anyone know if the brake calibers on a 80 zx are inter changeable with 81 82 83, i need to rebuild my calibers but i don't care to much for the ones on the 80 s zx.

Fronts are the same... You didn't specify which you were talking about. Just an FYI... they are calipers not calibers.

The rear calipers from '79'-'81 280zx are one type. The rear calipers from '82-'83 280zx are another type. Those 2 types will not interchange.

Yep... once a 79-81 rear caliper stops working, your options are:

-Search for months till you find a rebuild kit (that's what I did).
-Search through junk yards to find a caliper in better shape.
-Convert to 82-83 rear control arms / cv joints & then you can use the better calipers (or upgrade to 240sx rear brakes).

i thought it was just the rotors and calipers that changed, not the arms too?? i havent actually tried the swap, but the arms look the same, at a glance.

It's been a couple years since I messed w/ the rear brake swaps, but I think the 79-81 & 82-83 rear calipers have diff mounting bolt hole distances.

whats the big deal with how they look? thats a very wierd reason to change your brakes...... i mean, they are brakes!!!

My rear brake calipers are toast i thought since had to rebuild i would just change them.

i know you mean though. first time i saw mine i thought they were a poor excuse for a caliper
