Take your whole library with you in the palm of your hand and never change another CD in your life...

Every car I drive, now has a head unit with an AUX input. I haven't used the CD player in years.

Ahh Hell, my crappy sony has an AUX input on the front...never even thought about the addition of an portable mp3 player....ahh crap, there goes some more money.

I found the subs!!!

I was searching for subs on Ebay this morning and look what I found...Rockford has finally come out with their new re-designed Punch subs. They have finally got rid of the fake rivets on the cone where the surround meets it and they have put a proper surround on the new model. The old model with the fake rivets were weak where the cone meets the surround and would separate very easily. The new model has the cone extend well past the surround as it should.

It is safe to say that I am excited about the new models and will be getting them ASAP...soon after the new Kenwood amp arrives. Also, I will be stocking up on wood and supplies to make an amp rack and new sub enclosure...now that I have a growing collection of Craftsman tools. Man I like having a job. Here are some pics of a proper looking, clean subwoofer.

Hey guys no offense to anybody. But if I wanted to go MP3 or i-pod or whatever. I would have went that route, and have asked about it. I still like listening to Cd's. Call me old-school, and such. But I have close to 300 cd's, and am a member of BMG music. My collection keeps growing. I was trying to go after a 50 disc changer, but it ended too soon. They have also made a 200 disc changer for cars. But I haven't found any like that yet.

All in all, I just wanted to make that clear to everybody. I will upgrade some of my wiring, I want to go with an amp, subs, and whatever else. Not too much, but something decent for my rock and metal music. But one thing at a time. he he And thanks for the help, you know who you are.

No offense taken.

P.S.
I have over 500 CD's (That I personally OWN!) on my 80GB iPod with room for several movies as well. I can move the entire library from one car to the next with little trouble.

Red face Crap!!

Admittedly I did not plan ahead so well when I jumped on the purchase of these two wonderful amplifiers. As it turns out, the rear hatch of the 280zx's does not have much room...LOL. Looks like I will have to get creative when I mount these big *** amps...but they sure look cool don't they

Looks good man, I have a few questions for you. I recently got that JVC auto reverse tape player with detatchable face on e-bay. I want to get an amp, run 6 x 9's where the storage covers are behind the seats. And run 2 8 inch subs where the stock speakers are behind the seats. And I am customly going to put 2 speakers inside the lower dash panels. Anyway get back to me with your thoughts man. Much appreciated, and then I know what to look for from there.

That's simple man...get a 4 channel amp to run the 6x9's and the 8's and use the tape deck to run the front speakers. Hear is a inexpensive way to do it.

You will have to do some enlarging of the factory speaker holes behind the seats...they should be for 6 1/2" speakers already...if you don't want to cut anything then go on ebay and do a search for "MDF Mounting Rings" for the 8's. Try to get 3/4" or 1" thick rings, 1" would be better. Remove the factory speakers - screw the mounting rings over the openings and test fit the 8's to see if they will sit flush on the rings, if they do then your good, if not cut some metal out of the way or double up the rings on each hole. I would get Infinite Baffle subs as the area is large behind the factory speakers and won't sound right with regular subs...trust me on this.

Another way is to block off the 6 1/2" holes and put the HIGH QUALITY 6x9's where you said and run an amp to them alone. I have heard good quality 6x9's sound like a pair of 8's before with an amp on them running a full range signal. Either way I think you will be happy. The under-dash idea....hmmmm, not fond of that as the speakers would be facing your knees and would not create a good soundstage. However, if you can locate some Image Dynamics speakers...they are compression horn speakers...mid/highs and sound great. You can mount them under the dash facing you and you may never find better sounding mids/highs for our ZX's or find anything that will fit as good.

I would also not skimp on the amp if you can afford something decent...$100 on ebay can get you something wonderful as long as it is a reputable name brand....if you need any other advice or have some specific questions I may be able to help more or better.

Just where/how would you mount those unusual shaped things? I've had speakers mounted in the panels where our knees our, but it sounded kind of muted since it was aimed at my crouch.

I would like to see that amp and cap........If you are going to be the "God of Thunder...and Rock and Roll" then I want to see where the storm is coming from. I like the Lanzars man, they made some decent stuff back in the day.

Okay well I temp rigged my stereo I was installing. I ended up putting it in my current daily driver. And wow what a difference in power and sound. I am now hooked to aftermarket stereos. And will no longer use the factory ones. I am forever addicted. he he Anyway I am going to finish mounting my JVC head unit. And post some pics of it. I can't seem to find the front speaker wires though. I am going to look in my '81, which is apart. And see what color they are. And then hook them directly to the unit. That is all for now, will post pics soon.

I dont by any means intend to insult, but if the Lanzars are the best subs you've ever owned then I'd have to assume you must not have owned many. If they where mine to do with what I pleased they'd go directly in the garbage and I'd laugh, all the while thinking of all the better subs I now had room for. In my book they rate down there around the rankings of Boss and Pyle who most know are just synonym's for junk. Mind you though, this is just my personal outlook on the subject and no one has to agree and if you like them thats all that really matters.

Well unfortunately alot of companies get bought out for their name in hopes to make a profit off that name. Doesn't alway make for good products in the end for the consumer.

I am swapping my CD player from my '79 to my '82 Turbo...did you all know that the radio housing is different? The '82 seems to be about 1/4" wider in the actual radio opening. In the '79 the radio mounts to a molded piece that spans the opening of the radio face area...the '82 does not have this molded piece...it is all open when the radio is removed. I only bring this up cause now I have to cut up my '82 to radio face to make the CD player fit. This is why when you plan to do something to your car and you think it will take 20min you need to triple the time to do whatever....oh well...back to work.

the whole thing would be easier to swap, then just change the outer plastic covering.
