Ahhhhhh Help!

Ok so i have a 1983 280zx NA 2+2. After i drive the car for a while i realize the car wants to die out on me. Now i know this isnt a huge overheating problem because on my gauge it doesnt show it being overheated. Now one time when it was happening i pulled over and started it up again and gas it to keep it alive. She start to feel choked up or clogged and it backfired on me from the intake area. Idk if this is my cat being clogged? Or what the heck it could be because im out of ideas. I put brand new NGK spark plugs and i thought that was the problem but it didnt fix anything! :( HELP PLEASE... anything would be helpful. Thanks.

Need more info. When was your last tune up?

NuBeeZee 11-02-2014 10:21 PM

I changed spark plugs and wires about a month and a half ago. Thats too early for another. Did the distributor cap and rotor about 4 months ago. And changed fuel filter as well about 4 months ago. Am i missing anything else?

Maybe you have crud in the tank/lines clogging up the filter

NuBeeZee 11-02-2014 10:46 PM

Well i put fuel injection cleaner in the gas tank with premium gas one time. Im kind of scared it would be the vacuum lines because there are so many. Do you know of any threads or ways of deleting those damn things? Because i remember i had one line off by accident and it shut my car down completely. Because another problem ive been having is the motor choked up every once in a blue when i floored it on every gear.

Oh and i made an aftermarket filter with new piping from the afm.

Tank crud wont go away with just adding gas. Deleting the vacuum lines isn't really recommended either they are there for a reason. Vacuum lines are crazy cheap just replace them all if your worried about em.

If you don't already have 'em, check out the freebie docs at XenonS130 - S130 Reference Looks like the Maintenance chapter of your service manual has some good inspection/troubleshooting stuff.

Remember it's only a machine. It has a set of needs. All ya gotta do is meet them and it runs perfectly (again!).:048:

Ok so how would i totally flush everything out of my car and clear out my tank?

BigBirdsZ 11-03-2014 01:08 PM

Dropping the tank, cleaning it out, clearing the line with air. You gotta be sure though. How mechanicaly inclined are you? Do you have the tools or access to them. No one here can read your cars minds, and the description you gave of your issues was really vague, more info can definitely help us help you.
