280zx Wiring diagram
Hey All,
I'm back already with another cry for help! I got an alarm for my 83 280zx, but the website that i bought the alarm from didnt have any diagrams for any year earlier than 87. if anyone knows a website that has this info i could really use it. Thanks again! |
Which wiring diagram do you need? I assume you want to hook up the starter kill to your ignition? If that's all you need, go down to your local auto parts store and pick up a Haynes manuel for $15.00.

Ah... sweet Haynes manual.... priceless. :038:
|
If you're lucky you'll be able to find the Haynes. I had to get it online. Farthest back I can get around here is the 300ZX. I guess it's because everyone in Ohio seems to own a Z31.
|
I need the following wire colors:
Parking Lights Door locks (master) 12v Constant (I think i can use the one in the ignition switch area) Door Trigger Brake light I'm pretty sure this is all i need. If you can help, please reply. Thanks again for the help. If not, i'll just get a haynes manual. |
Every AutoZone / Napa / Pepboys / Checker should have it... if not, find out where the main store is & have one shipped to your local store. Or buy one on ebay & have it shipped to your doorstep.

Wire colors wont really do you much good since there are several circuits using the same color wires. If you check the connectors to each of those components you'll be able to find out what color the wires are. From there though you'd have to guess where the wires run to without a diagram.
And I agree that walking into an Autozone (or similar) and finding a Haynes for the 280zx is not to likely. When I got my first one here in CA the Autozone I went to had it in stock. The Pepboys did not. Since then though I have yet to find another one sitting in a parts store. Mines pretty tattered so I always look out for one. But any of these stores can order you one. If for whatever reason they wont (not likely), then places like amazon.com can send you one. |
from the back of the ignition switch it should be yellow on an early 280zx, the door locks dont exist, so youll have to make your own lock soliniods, its not hard, they cost 25 bucks each. if your not comfortable wiring, or unsure, take it to a local boom box shop and they can install it for fairly cheap, the park light wire can be traced from the switch with a light tester, as well as the switch ignition power. constant battery power can be taken from the back of the fuse panel ciggarette lighter power. i wired my own alarm, so i did the searching and know, door triggers are from the drivers door switch, behind the sail panel. thats all you should need, if you need more i can consult my hanes manual for you.

Weren't power locks added in 82 or 83? So he could already have power door lock solenoids.
|
it depends on the year, but you are right j, 82 they started to have power locks on gl models, they got a funny thing in them that when you unlock the drivers side the pass. side unlocks too
|
Actually, here in the states, the GL model had power locks back to at least the 1980 model year... and yes, if you unlocked the driver's side, the passenger side also unlocked, but not the other way around...
I think that fell out of favor during the late 80's / early 90's with all the car jackings... |
Was that all GL's cause my 81 GL doesn't have power locks. I only thought it was 82 or 83 cause my wiring diagrams doesn't show power locks until the 82. I could be mistaken though.

Actually, now that you mention it, it might have been my '82, but I could have sworn my '80 had power door locks... hmmm... Oh well, that one was crushed over a decade ago...
|
Yes my '81 is a GL model, and it does not have power locks. But of course my '82 GL model does.
