280zx Top speed?
What is it? for a N/A and a turbo?
Were the T-5 transmissions any different? I have small tires on mine (previous owner put them on) so my car is running 2 thousand rpm at 50 mph in fifth gear... :102: I don't think thats too good lol |
I've got an '81 nonturbo 5 spd and it has P195/60R14's on it and I've gotten mine up to 125 mph @ roughly 5500 rpm's. My aerodynamics are all messed up so maybe it's capable of a higher speed (darn rust and smashed air dam). I've also stripped the interior and put on a cold air intake and some hi-po spk plg wires. I got this measurement from drivin next my buddy in his 2001 eclipse.

My stock automatic non turbo '79 280zx 2+2 also made 125 top speed. I was more like 5800+rpm. What's weird... is my automatic was 3 speed. Weird we got similar rpms.

Hai l00k guyz!!! It's a previous HUGE thread on 280zx top speed: https://www.zdriver.com/forums/showt...ight=top+speed
:D |
lol ^^^^ sure is!
oh and on my 280Z i got it to hit 140mph and still had some to go... but i also swapped rear ends and no speedo cog swap lol so it was probably 125mph |
Have to say I was on I-70 racing a Cobalt SS and before we had to slow down to make our turn I really didnt know how fast I was going sence well the speedo only goes to 80 so once we stopped at at stop light I had to ask what our speed was. The other driver said we were at 140. I have to say I also had some more left under the pedel. Mine is also an N/A 5spd. I can only go off his word but I know it sure was fast and fun.

Last night I was racing this dude in an F16... and just when he was about to catch me, the twin turbos kicked in!
Then my speedo read 3259052375273753080808325763279923 MPH. |
know whats funny, i looked up the old geo-cities speed calculator and it said the 5speed from the 77-79Z is all the same and so is the rear end so its basically saying my speedo should have been correct (though it was not i know for a fact driving past those radar signs the police setup) and it also said with that combo of tranny and rear end my car would do 193mph at 8k rpm. yeah.... right.... i have my doubts about that program now.
|
my midget would do 75 MPH. and it slowed down if i put the pedel from 4/5 throttle to full. those webers. too complicated for me
|
advance your timing more kasbekz. my car has seen a little over 220 kmh :)
|
i got rid of that car a while back to buy my z32. you have a midget?
|
my buddy has an MGB. pretty dumb cars hard to look cool in one unless your in england and it happens to be the 1960's lol
|
80mph is 4500 in 5th for me '79 5spd. thats really the only time i looked at the speedo and made note, doesent leave room for much more
|
the MGB isn't nearly as nice looking as the midget IMO. the midget has way cooler lines and when it's lowered on panasports, it looks bad-asss. the british car click is a very hard to understand one, seeing as the cars are known for being slow and unreliable, but i love them.
|
so u do 2000 rpms at 50 mph huh? sounds normal. i got 16 inch rims with nittos onm them. in fifth gear i am doing 25 mph at 1000 rpms 50 at 2000 rpm 75 at 3000 rpms 100 mph at 4000 rpms 125 at 5000 rpms. my car has been clocked at 138 lol it was the P.O.
|
we tried to do the rpm tire size and rear end ratios in automotive last year.. we failed
mine hits 85 a 3700 rpm... i think... ill check tomarrow |
Here's the deal on why the Bitish car. I bought a new MGB in 1977. Still have it. Would say it's mint but it's in great shape with 33k miles on it. You can drive these cars at slow speeds and still have an xuberating drive.
It's all about the feel of the road, responding curves and corners, whith the stick shit in your hand, with the top down and the wind in your face. In no way is it about speed. It's about the art of the drive. |
THE STICK SHIT!!!! buwahahahahahaha ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!
|
you like stick shit? lol
|
true that. it doesn't matter how fast you go, driving an older british car is just royalty. my dad has a perfectly restored TR6 (show winner), and it's not half as fast as my Z, but it sure is nicer.
|
I've ridden in a MG. Very fun cars..and pretty quick for their size. I believe it was a '77..and red...Quite an experience..
|
the older ones were even better. after 74 emissions and stupid engines plagued them down to less then the older ones. and big rubber f-ing bumpers
|
^^^^ the story of the z car also.... :(
|
this is a cool car:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_GT6 my dad had one supposedly, the Mk2 kind didnt get ruined by rubber bumpers |
that is a bitchin car. i love it. almost got one. i think the mark 2, although not plagued by rubber bumperettes"", it suffered from the rotoflex u-joints in the half shafts. big power decrease i think.
this is a similar car that is overall more desireable. i REALLY almost had one of these. i couldn't afford a new car though. http://www.motorbase.com/vehicle/by-id/82045368/ many of the same components as the GT6 that you mentioned |
