280zx no spark
280zx no spark
I have a 81 280zx turbo that runs off of the crank angle sensor and the power transistor outside of the coil, and I've replaced all of them and still nothing. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem may be? Or is there anyway I could bypass all of it with a different type of distributor? Or could I run it off of another ignition system from another car? I just need a spark, any suggestions? Thanks for your time boys <3
In response to nismo, yep it's secure. I'm getting power to the coil but nothing to the distributor. Is there supposed to be a signal sent to the coil to release voltage or how does that work? I'm not sure =/
Ok, just to make sure. the Wire that runs from the coil to the dizzy, does this wire have spark? if not. then you got somthing somewhere messed up. If so. then you have a problem with the dizzy. and no. you can not run spark off another car. Diff timing goin on. would though spark qat wrong time. Maby you can run off a coil on another car, right to the dizzy. Would requre a long spark plug wire, slightly modified, But this is NOT recamended. Just answering one of your question's. And it's always Great to see a Female Z'er. Hope your problem get's fixed. and don't be afraid to ask any question's at all.
The transistor should be getting a signal from the ECU, basically an interuption of it's signal. If that signal is not being interupted then the field never collapses and you never get a spark. Make sure you CAS is connected and sending a signal to the ECU.

It just came to me, does anyone know if i could run another power source to the coil li the old carberated cars, from the battery ignition to the coil someone tell me that will work,or some suggestions would be nice.

the ECU doesn't send a signal. It interupts a signal. The way a coil works is based on collapsing a magnetic field. The coil is always going to have voltage when the ignition is switched on and the engine is not running. Have someone crank the engine while you take a voltage reading at the coils primary circuit. Thats really the best you can do with a voltmeter. If you had an ocilliscope you could actually read the signal from the CAS and ECU to see if they're operating properly.
and because this is the turbo distributor we are dealing with you can not direct power to the coil from another source. That will only work if the ignition/timing devices are contained within the distributor itself. Older carb'd vechicles used points in the distributor to collapse the field so it didn't matter where the power came from (as long as it was controlled by the ignition switch).
