1980 280zx

I was around a few months ago when i almost picked up a 81 280zx in blue, my favorite color Z after reddish-brown. I always regret not buying it that day, it was the one that got away.

Well, tonight im looking at a 1980 280zx with under 90k miles on it. For $1500. It seems too good to be true, but ill see it in person and decide for myself. All original, clean interior. All receipts from new, second owner. If I decide to take it, I'll have pics soon. Cuz it already sold once within 12 hours of posting, and that guy bailed out giving me a second opportunity to look at it.

I had a 1981 280zx in the early 90's and I always remember it as one of my favorite cars I ever owned. It was junk heap and I fixed it up for 2 years. Shouldn't have sold it either..

Yeah I hear you man, sometimes we do things, we wish we wouldn't have. All in all that sounds like a decent price, for a clean Z, with that low of miles. Hope it works out for you, and you get it. And yes definately post pics of it, we would like to see it. Good luck to you bro':)

well.. you know how it goes...

the 87k miles was actually 187k... im sure of it. the headliner was gone, the inside door panels were all ripped up and "burned looking" as Z's become inside. The clutch was gone, I had over 4" of freeplay on topside of pedal and could barely activate the clutch. Then the oil pressure was under 0 at idle. Revving it up to 3-4k would get the oil pressure to 1/2 way. I expect the engine has 187k on it, and the clutch might be the second, but its definetly worn out. He went down from $1500 to $1200 but I wasnt interested. I dont want to throw $500 into it as soon as i get it, and i definetly dont want an engine with 187k. He was a smoker too, and although it didnt stunk inside, i could sense some smokyness. The GOOD, the engine had surprising power for being so dead, it had very good pickup, prob cuz it wazs so loose and free revving. And the body was almost perfect. Not the paint, but the body. One taillight all smashed, that wasnt a show stopper.

I'll keep looking. I'm too pick I guess.

No you're not. If you can afford it, it's better to get the one in the best condition possible so you can spend your time driving and enjoying it before you have to sink tons of time and money into it.

Hey if you're bay area "Cali" keep an eye out for me please. I drove to Antioch last night to look at that Z. But I'm on the penninsula. And I check Craiglist almost daily for 280zx, or MAYBE a 300ZX same body style. But I'm not too intested in earlier Z's to be honest. I love Zx bodys.

The problem im seeing is all the nice Zx on CL are $3000 and up. but thats the condition i want.

The 77 280 comes with 170 bhp....maybe a little easier to add power to.
