what a treat today!
i decided today to fix and clean up all the wires in my car, fixed my taillights, re-ran wires to my speakers, rewire fuel pump, finally got it right and i go to start my car"... wooooorrr.... woooorrr.....Ping!". i **** bricks and run and look at my oil! and bam empty!!!! my guess is its locked up... fml! so im on and extremely tight budget... and time frame so heres the deal i have a guy on cl offering me a engine with replaced new alternator, waterpump, thermostat, head gasket, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, oil sending unit. replaced all seals but the rear main. for $200. or is there a better cheaper way to resolve my problem??? and how hard would the motor swap be??
Motor swap? Not to hard if you know what your doing, and even if you don't its not rocket science. Specially if your trading zx motor for zx motor.
The question id be asking is what kind of motor your getting for 200 bones, all that stuff on it and wants 200 bucks? Id be scared, there's probably atleast 100 bucks into proper machine work into a head-gasket job if I'm not mistaken, and I don't really see someone replacing one for "***** and giggles"
just seems a little low, check that thing out throughly...

the guy pulled his l28 out to put a v8 in, he says that he was gonna keep the motor for a back up but decided to sell it instead... and im going to fill the oil and what? diesel in the cyclinders? and try to crank it?
Eh? Don't make things so complicated all the time...
Do a compression check. Or don't...
Did you ever change the oil after your "overfill" issue?

ok well its fixed... i guess the starter just made a noise and the battery went dead... i added oil and it ran like it didnt have an issue. i let it idle and well when the dipstick said it was empty it now says its over full again???? so after it got to temp and checked it i turned it off gonna drain a quart out when it cools... could my dipstick be off? or is the oil splashing on the dipstick? if i stick it in real quick and pull it back out the oil on the stick is "spoty" as in like you dipped you hand in oil and flung whats on your hand onto the stick. the oil is clean. and its no longer smoking.. btw i only put one quart lucas and one quart of oil so two quarts and its saying it way over full. when i checked it cold it was dead on the "f" mark.
you know what I'm just over reacting... not thinking clearly I'm nervous that i have to drive it 2k plus miles in 4 weeks. i checked it while it was running *facepalm* i checked it while it was off and at operating temp and she's dead on full. no hesitations. thank you for your advice guys! anything i should check before my long drive? o and is there a sticky on how to change the power steering cv boots?
I will vouch for Lucas. That stuff is amazing. I put it in all my cars when I change the oil. It helps lubricate and protect better along with the oil. It also helped my bad cylinder. My Z has more power than it had when I got it running almost 2 years ago.
