Turbo not spooling

i am the proud owner of a 1983 280zx 2+2 turbo. had tranny rebuilt, and put new injectors, and plugs in. engine lacks power when underway. turbo is okay but does not kick into action. we thought it might be the vaccum pump. is there anybody that may advise me on this.

if i clean off the manifold, will this solve my problem?

will i get the use of turbo?

thank you for any help you may give.

Welcome to ZDriver. I have created a thread for your question, since it didn't have anything to do w/ the thread topic you posted it in.

If the turbo is good, why do you suspect it's not "kicking into action"? What does the boost gauge read at full throttle? Have you checked the waste gate vacuum lines?

First thing to do is get an aftermarket boost.vac gauge. You should feel when the car boosts even on a stock 280zx. If it isn't spooling then best case scenario is that your wg is stuck open.
What do you mean by "the turbo is okay"?

you knew to cars? or knew to the English language? lol jk jk, but really your wording is hard to follow. and we could use more details. as the others said, do you have an aftermarket boost guage? and does the car still go all the way through the RPM range it can? either the turbo is blown or the wastegate is open if infact it is a problem with the turbo itself.

Take off the cover over the ecu down by the driver's feet and wiggle the wiring loom a bit near the ecu while getting on the throttle.

You may well find it takes off like a scalded dog when you do this.

Bring someone along to keep the car going straight as you reach down.
