tranny issues, again grrr!

ok so replaced the 79 tranny in my 79 2 seater about a year ago, with an 81 transmission (if I remember correctly), it was a used transmission, now 2nd is making more noise than what I started with and its now difficult to get it in 2nd, (I know what this means). I was wondering if anyone has bought this kit and if it is actually a good buy or should just get rebuilt unit from somewhere.?

lol aamco said there was no such thing as a rebuild kit for a 280zx tranny, and then he told me it was 1200-1300 for a rebuild, (how can they rebuild it if I can't?), figuring they just want to dupe me into giving them some business

Thats a rebuild kit for a 71C tranny from a Z31. If memory serves the 280s used 71B, and I'm pretty sure they're different.

Nissan had a kit of sorts. Has bearings and syncros as well as gaskets all in one box. Expensive tho. I just like factory parts for the difficult to replace stuff cause I don't like to do it twice

hmm sounds like rebuilt unit then, same price roughly for either the rebuild or the rebuilt so yeah, gotta save some moneys, headers and exhaust officially put on hold, lame

been doing some readings, and sounds like a BW T5 WC will fit in with BW T-56 turbo bellhousing? any other parts needed would be cool
thanks

You don't have a T5 unless your tranny isn't from an '81 but from an '82-83 turbo.

Get a nice S13 tranny and mod it to your bellhousing - that's the cheapest now adays... Z32 requires more mods but it's the strongest Nissan car tranny....

There's a sticky over at hybridz about it. Pretty good write up and info on what the machine shop needs to do
