Timing question
My damper pulley went out on me and had another good one to replace it.To make a long story short. The different pulley isn't lining up to the "0" mark on the indictor plate. The engine is at TDC and i verfied this by pulling the dizzy cap.Rotor is pointing the the #1 spark plug.
I checked my timing with timing light and it's reading 20 deg with the tps unplugged.I don't know what else to think. The other damper i put on was from my old 80 280zx engine. Both pully's looked exactly the same. As far as performance. My vacuum is reading at 10 on the boost gauge.I haven't purchased a vacuum reader yet to,so i really can't tell for sure if it is really that low.I am running 10 lbs of boost and the car has power, but no like it use to.Is there a way to get the pulley lined up to the correct position?I know my timing isn't set correctly because of the damper not lining up to "0". |
you might need to just scribe a new timing mark on the damper, its possible that one could have slipped too.
if its at TDC just mark 0 on the damper, some of them do vary since the timing number plate isnt always on the same side. |

Yah i wasen't quite sure if my 80 pulley was the same. So, I can just scribe a new mark and i am good to go?The old damper from my n/a motor never gave me any problems.
if the damper hasent slipped then Id just make a new mark, TDC is TDC no matter what pulley you put on there. |
I forgot to mention that before i pulled the n/a pulley of i did rotate the the crank to the "0" mark on the timing indicator and the the motor was showing correct tdc.I verified this by putting my old n/a dizzy in so i know the damper is ok.

I figured it out.I put the 27mm socket on my motor and rotated to the "0" mark and it lined up just fine.
