Tightening the Injectors

About six months ago, I replaced the FI Hose, Rubber Insulators, and Plastic Holders for the Injectors on my '83 280ZX NA. Two of the Plastic Holders are now cracked. I'm guessing that I over-tightened them? What is the proper torque on the Injector Bolts? Thanks...Robert

Just tighten them enoug to hold them down. I cracked one of mine and it still runs fine it does not leak or let air in.. I think someone should fab up some crome ones that would be nice> Also when I tightened the hoses that connect the FI to the rail I had to go back and retighten the because they stretched out or some thing{still tryin to figure that out}

Mine did the same thing. I bought six brand new ones again and replaced them again with less pressure. None of them cracked at first... then a few months later I saw they were cracked. I left them in. Several years later the car is running fine with no fuel leaks. I don't think those seal much of anything. The two rubber o-rings around each injecto are what seal them. The plastic holders are just guides to keep the injector in place.

The older 280Z's had aluminum injector holders. (1975-7?)I grabbed six of them from a junk yard once. I still have not installed them. i'll probably install them on my turbo engine.

Thanks for the info. Do you guys have hose clamps on both ends of the FI hose (on the fuel rail & on the injector)? The reason I ask is cause when I replaced everything last time, there were hose clamps on the fuel rail, but not on the injector.

BleachZee, why don't you clean up those aluminum holders and send them to me. I send you back a pic.

The hoses should be attached to the injectors from the factory. So no hose clamps on the injector end. If you find a car with clamps on the injector end, then someone had a fuel leak and did a cheap rig-job when they should have just replaced the injectors.

Sure, I'll clean them, polish them like chrome and send them to you with a free turbo engine just because I'm a nice guy!

Anyone else want some free turbo engines?!?

I wasn't planning on replacing the injectors, just the FI hose, cause it's pretty old. Is there a special way to attach the hose to the injector?

Out of curiosity, if the engine is running strong (120,000 miles), is it still time to replace the injectors? What's their life expectancy?

BTW, not really looking at an engine swap right now, so just send the "Chromed" holders.

I have 217,000 on my 82 and only had to replace 2 injectors. I run a 15.5-15.7 1/4 mile so it definetly runs strong for being a low comp. 3.0 I have braided steel fuel line from http://www.paragonperformance.com/ it looks nice. My old hose was all oxidized. But i only used hose clamps to put it on.

I got 150,000 out of my injectors before 3 of them started leaking. I replaced all six at that time.

You can't re-attach the hose like the factory style. If you want to keep your original injectors, cut the old hose off and do the double-clamp thing. Be sure to get the special Fuel Injection hose clamps, not the regular style hose clamps. Same goes for the hose. Don't trust the hose if it doesn't cost at least $3 per foot. Carb hose is much cheaper than fuel injection hose.
