Rpm Only Up To 3000

Need assistance, long distance. I'm in Atlanta, Georgia and the car is in Eugene, Oregon. Car was driven from San Diego, CA to Eugene. Heater hose blew shortly after arrival. Repaired hose and now vehicle won't rev over 3000 RPM. Seem to remember my 77 810 having the same problem once. If I'm not mistaken, the problem was coolant shorting across the contacts in the Bosch connector on the water temp sensor. That was in the front of the engine. The heater hose is in the back of the engine. Any ideas what else will stop engine from revving over 3000 RPM. I'm stuck...it's been too long since I've done anything on a 28L. I need to drive this car from Eugene to Atlanta this coming weekend. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It is possible that the head temp sensor is shorted out or now has an air pocket behind it. It is located towards the back of the engine in the head on the passenger side...just above the hose that you described blowing. Try cleaning the contacts and connector....it looks just like the fuel injector connectors.
Good luck,
Gary

It was in fact, exactly what I thought. Had the current owner, until Saturday that is, remove and clean the Bosch connector on the Water Temp Sensor and replace it. Car runs like a dream again. Can't wait to pick this baby up. Gonna be a long drive, but in a Z, nothing but FUN.
Just thought I'd let everyone know what the problem was. Just in case anyone else experiences their engine not wanting to rev past 3000 RPM after being wet.

Turns out the car I went to pick up in Portland, Oregon wasn't what I was told it was. What a pile of bondo & rust. Broken panels on the interior...that car had to have been hit hard. I just hate when something is misrepresented like that. Anyway, as it turns out, I got back home and found a nicer car with far less mileage and a much better price, ALOT closer to home. I'm supposed to go get it on Wednesday. Hope nobody declares war on Tampa/St. Pete....
