Remove scale build up from engine block:

Hello Everyone, I’ve disassembled an L28E engine down to the block. Pistons & cranks are removed and the block is in great shape with very little wear. There is no rust per se but the engine water ports show scale build up inside. Attachment 21642 I’ve researched many methods to remove the scale build up; from electrolysis, chemical & vinegar baths to simply scraping the inside as best as possible. Would you have any advice on how to remove scale deposits from the inside of the block before reassembly? Thank you, SD |
Scraped and pressure washed. Scraped some more and it's all set.

Yup. That's pretty much all there is to it. You can go the extra step of pouring in some CLR or LimeAway and let it work it's magic... but pressure washing cleans out all the loose stuff.

Thanks Nismo,
Yeah, I've started the rebuild and it's going together nicely. SD |
