Even drag racers don't floor it and pop the clutch. What kind of tires do you have and what size are they?

Speaking of Ugly PT cruiser (sorry Rod ), have you guys seen that new Chevy that so stronly resembles the PT in the looks department. Caught me a little off gaurd til I saw the bowties on the rims. Saw a commercial on it too that day, some three letter acronym. HHR or some crap like that (no, not the SSR truck).

And on the subject of race results, I recently beat my son to the kitchen for the last of the Pringles. Oh sure it wasn't fair, he's only 2 years old. But hey he got even when I was stupid enough to leave em in my room while I took a **** and he snagged em and ran to his room and locked the door. So all in all I'd say I get the *** end of the race for the Pringles. The Pizza flavored ones to. Aint that a bitch? Losing to a Honda is one thing, but losing to 2 year old. That's pretty bad.

Damn, a "T" rating is the lowest possible traction/heat rating that a tire can have and still be legal for anything other than a ride-on lawn mower. Whoever put those on your car was an a%$^ole. The car came with an "H" rated tire from the factory and you should never go below that. I got me some nice wide "Z" rated tires and I can still bust 'em loose pretty easy... just think how neutered your car's handling is with those skinny little under-rated cheese-dick tires on it.

And J... Nice job on the pringles race. And, I call that HHR the "PT Chevy".

Dude that sucks ***. I think women drivers, specifically elderly women drivers shouldn't be allowed to get a liscence. They might be able to multitask at home but when driving, scoff, that's a whole other story. I could outdrive a woman driver after drinking a bottle and a half of vodka. I know I've done it.

Couple of Marines in a newer (2001 or 2002?) Trans Am last night talking smack at the stop light. They never learn. I had to put the smack down on their "Muscle Car". Reaction time baby!!! It's all about reaction time. Out of the hole, he had me by almost a car length up until about 30mph... then... the smack down came calling his name. As I passed them, they looked totally horrified. Once I got 5 car lengths ahead I backed off and let them catch up. More respect! The driver leans over over and say's "Whatcha got in that thing!?". So I say "Pretty much stock straight 6, What about you?" HA HA HA HA HA!

I can't wait to start racing with my car now that it's out of paint. I have been driving my Mom's 2003 Eclipse V6 and I have raced a few people with that. It's quick but not for how big the motor is. SO far I'v beaten a VR6 Passat, Jetta GTi. I also raced A subaru WRX and we were neck and neck, not sure but I think he was a little faster. So far I have a bunch of races lined up, Eclipse GST running 14psi, SRT-4 that I guess is pretty fast, WRX and a few others. I am kind of worried about the Eclipse GST, I think he could beat me right now cause I am completely stock other then an intake. In the next couple of days I am going to be putting on my NPR intercooler, HKS BOV, Boost controller, boost gauge, and new rims and tires. Do you think I could beat him then??

I'm confused... what are we talking about?

Not sure what the quotes above are in refference to.

Really, what are we talking about TurboT5?

Yeah, It took me three lines to ask... without being a dick. What challenge are you suggesting? a battle of wits? I'm sorry, maybe I'm just an idiot, But I really don't know if you're trying to make my point for me, or if you're just being lame. So instead of answering me with more questions, why not just answer. Clarity is a really good thing when trying to make a point. I could be taking this all out of whack here... but since you have thus far failed to state what it is you're trying to say, I must assume that it's not a good thing. So, here's a challenge for you... Say what you mean instead of trying to be coy. Can you do that?

Not quite. All US domestic '82 & '83 model year 5-speed manual transmission cars were delivered with the Borg/Warner T5.

If you found one that had a Nissan 5-speed it was probably installed by a previous owner to replace a bad T5.

Not to get of the topic you guys were on but does any one have any input on wether or not I will beat that Eclipse GST? Nismo you said you have seen a GST race, what did it have done to it and was it quick? The kid I know has a Down pipe, cat-back, intake, and running 14psi. I have or will have a pretty similair setup other then my new intercooler with 12psi, is there any chance??

There's always a chance. 90% of the outcome in a street race is the driver.

That was some interesting reading, thanks for posting it. made me realize how important it is to get a good start.
Speaking of which I was wondering if some of you guys could give me some tips on getting a good start with these cars. I have just been revving it to about 2500rpm and slowly dropping the clutch. And were is the best point to shift?
thanks

It's more about getting a feel for the car than anything. You can take two 280ZX's from the same year with similar mileage and they will react completely different from each other. One car might do best shifting at 5000 RPM's while the other one still pulls strong to 5500 or higher. Tires, clutch, suspension all determine how hard you can rev before dumping the clutch and getting out of the hole. If you are traction limited, you aren't going anywhere quick. You'll either just spin the tires like mad, or hook up at such low RPM's that you are bogging out of the whole. You just have to experiment with the car until you can get a good feel for it's best launching and shift points.

When I raced my 300zx I found it best to drop the clutch at about 4,000 rpms with the mods I've done to it. That cold air intake, racing headers, and racing muffler suprised me on how much more responsive they made my car.
