Yeah I was just making a point that they are too damn popular! That is mainly why I don't like them. Otherwise Honda's are well made cars. I used to have a Civic myself, but it had too many problems, because of bugs in it. I just didn't want to fool with it anymore. But if you take care of them, they will pretty much last forever! But so is a Z, they are pretty strong cars also. Unless you get one with losts of problems, which I gained with both of mine! Oh well, I will work them out, that is why I have FSM's for both of them. But of course that will be a while, unfortunately.

Just one thing bothering me.."They get those motors to run 10's NA! " In my time at the track, I have NEVER seen a civic dip into the 12's...I've seen a b16, turbo with 75 shot..run a 14.36, Maybe bad driver, I don't know..but If you ask me, It's got alot to do with how light civics are...Even though I have NEVER SEEN one dip into 12's, I've heard of about 34843843089034 that run 10's though, they guy that ran 14.3 said he ran 10's. Note this isn't my opinion or some bias against honda, This is based on what I have witnessed since I have been into cars..but when you ASK my opinion 13's for any car, is still pretty fast..regaurdless of displacement. If you're in the 13's- You're hanging in there with the best of em.

Every Honda owner who has seen The Fast and the Furious knows that their car runs 10's because that's the catch phrase of the movie.

I'm not talking your run of the mill daily driven Civic. I'm talking full on purpose built drag cars. And yes they're light and no they aren't streetable in the least. Yes they need to rev to ungodly speeds to make the power they do and the compression is insane. They run off race fuel, in most cases not a gasoline at all. And I never said their were so many 10s civics running the streets. All I was saying is that the potential is there and its being done. The DOHC honda heads will outflow most anything else on the market. Thats where those little bastards get all that power (aside from compression). But the fact remains, they are running little 4banger motors that are available in these cars. I'm not saying civics are awesomely fast cars. They're not. The B16 block with the B18C head from the Type R make a very potent combo for 1.6 liters. And those cars are weighing in in the low one thousands. My testament was for the motors Honda builds, not for their cars(GOD no). Any person who says that Honda doesn't build an amazing motor is just not right in their mind. Most of the Civics you see running around are sporting D15 SOHC engines. Not exactly cream of the crop. And the S2000 is now putting out over 100HP per liter. And that's directly from Honda. So no, you're not going to see a 10 sec. Honda roll up to you at the light. Or even a 11, 12, or 13 sec Civic. Like I said most are just intake and exhaust running 16's. And the Integra Type R(we didn't get the Civic Type R) is not only quick, but a stock type R will hang with a 280zx in the twistys too. They were also designed to handle the turns. But since it's starting to sound like I'm an advocate for Honda, I'm going to stop now. And for the record, I wouldn't be caught dead owning a Civic or and Integra. You just can't get away from the ricer label when you're driving one of those.

PS: Those Hondas have dipped well into the single digits with forced induction too! Chew on that for a while. There was even an Integra funny car built. Don't know how that fared though. But I guess I should mention Escort Racing while I'm here. Look em up, they had one hell of a 300zx. Over 1000+ HP!!!

Hows this:
AEM Civic running 6second passes in the 1/4 mile(not 1/8 mile). it's a turbo beast though and I'm not sure of the motor (probably not a Civic motor and it's rear wheel drive making it not much of a Civic at all. But it is still powered by Honda.

And here's the stats for escort racing 300zx:
1200rhwp and 7.4 seconds in the quarter mile. Now that's freaking fast! Anyone want to race that thing for pinks? And remember guys "its not how you stand by your car, its how you race your car. You better remember that" Sorry I couldn't resist Someone mentioned the Fast and the Furious, and Ja Rule is gayer than that movie, and the movie was pretty gay. And remember, for the fastest 1/4 mile times, DOUBLE CLUTCH WHEN YOU UPSHIFT (who's the retard that wrote that script?). And has anyone been able to find the 7speed gear box in Paul Walkers Eclipse? Ok enough knocking the movie, I'm out.

Thanks, I did smoke a WRX awhile back on the old worn out engine, so this fresh one with bigger vavles should do ok. Meanwhile check out my old Datsun 210 I used to have, Twin carbs, header, ported polished and milled.... 16.80 in the quarter and 42mpg!

just run a search on import drag racing. You'll see for yourself, I'll get some links for you guys. And I wasn't vouching for the cars, I was vouching for the motors. And can you name any car that can run a 10 sec. 1/4 mile na as built by the manufacturer? I doubt it. 4cyl, 6cyl, 8cyl, 10cyl, 12cyl? I think not. Besides, you obviously missed the point, and if you couldn't get it from my previous posts, then I ain't going to bother explaining it. And as far as Mazda is concerned, they built some nice cars from the factory. but the rotory is an infamously touchy motor that doesn't take well to abuse. Unless you plan on running race fuel or don't plan on the apex seals holding up for very long, the RX-7 cant handle much power on the street without precision tuning. Any motor can be made to put out insane numbers, but NO motor can do it for very long. How long do think those 1000HP RB's and 2JZ's last? Not long. And is a 10sec NA honda really that hard to believe? Think about it. It's not gonna take very much HP to get 1200lbs car moving fast enough to do it. These cars aren't putting out 500HP, and last time I checked I don't think it was even 400HP. And gear ratios play a big part in 1/4mile times, it's not all about HP for those stuck in some fantasy land thinking I'm talking about 600HP NA Honda motors.

Ok, now go back and read all the posts I put in this thread about this topic. Not once do I claim that the "Civic" is capable of 10s passes in NA trim. I said the "motors" are. And not just capable, they're doing it, and have plans to hit the 9's! Chew on that while I look up some links. I'll be posting them here shortly.

And on a side note, once I do post the links, can we drop the whole CIVIC thing. This is a Z forum. All I said was these motors are capable of more than they're given credit for and it had to be turned into some BIG issue. Thank You.

of course if you put a honda motor on a motor cycle you can run 10 sec 1/4 mile times you were saying honda builds great motors that are fast well if you change every thing out in that motor did honda build it hell no the person that bought all the aftermarket parts that other manufactures made any high performance motor isnt going to last as long as a regular stock motor anyone knows that thats why honda motor will last longer than a rotary or v8 etc but they still suck on performance your talking about weight issues now not about the motor the weight of the car has nothing to do with motor being great you put 200hp on a motorcycle its going to be fast common since you put that 10sec honda motor in a regular size car it would be slow why because its not on a gokart frame anymore its actually on a car your saying honda engines are fast only in a 1000lb car thats what i get ill wait for those links

Alright this is pointless. You're arguing a point I didn't even make man. I'll break your post down part by part. Yeah if you put a honda motor on a motorcycle it would run a 10sec 1/4. But we're not talking about motorcycles here are we? No. And I said that the Honda motors are capable of more than their given credit for. And yes they do build great motors. Not supercar motors. Just very efficient motors. Far more efficient than anything NA Nissan has ever put in a car, or any manufacturer. If I'm not mistaken, the S2000 possseses the highest HP to liter ratio of any Naturally aspirated car. That my friend IS MY POINT. Not the senseless point you're trying to argue with yourself. And the design of the Honda head is where the magic is, and yes Honda DID build that head. You can get far more power from those motors without ever touching the head. And the head is specifically what I said was responsible for where Honda draws its power from. And again, I never said a STOCK honda motor was a performance motor with the exception of the K series in the S2K. And the only reason I brought up the weight issue is because you seem so adament about the fact that you believe a car powered by a Honda motor couldn't run a 10sec 1/4. No engine in any car will run a 10sec 1/4 mile with any engine at the same HP level as those NA civics without putting them on a "go kart frame". And no I'm not saying Honda motors are only fast in a 1000lb car. I said that it only takes less than 400Hp to get a lightweight car into the 10sec range to prove that it can be done. They got honda motors running well over 700HP turbocharged. So yes, a honda motor can make a "regular size car" fast. Now since you obviously couldn't wait for the links last time, maybe this time you'll actually read what I wrote instead of just seeing the word "HONDA" and going into a rampage to prove the world wrong without any facts in your arsenal. I'm not trying to knock you but I live for acquiring this kind of knowledge, not just what my "ricer" hating friends spit at the local qwick stop. I love cars, not just one specific car. And I give credit where credit is due. I'm not gonna hate on the Honda name plate just because the civic(the bottom of the Honda lineup) is over popular with little punks who hit their parents up for a car. Pick up a Super Street, they cover alot of Import Drag Racing or an issue of Motor Trend once in a while and arm yourself with a little fact to go with your fiction. Links are on the way.

10.59@127mph. And that was back in 2002. How much you wanna bet they're running faster than that. Oh, and no, its not a full tube chassis car. And it's doing this with the B18. 1.8liters.

http://www.importdrag.com/racers_normanaubry.shtml
10.99@123mph. Also not full tube chassis. And this ones only 1.6 liters.

http://www.importdrag.com/racers_normanaubry.shtml

One,he's running the full stock chassis and even still has glass for his windshield and hatch. ET: 10.02@135mph. Ok, so he's running the 2.2liter 4cyl engine, but thats still ridiculous for an NA stock chassis car with a 4cyl. Which means, GASP, it's not on a "GOKart frame". And it's running a Honda motor like the other two I listed.

Thats all the NA links I'm gonna post. I think that proves my point on the NA topic. If you want more, look it up yourself. There were more cars on this sight and this is only the main drivers from one of the Import sanctioning bodies.

http://www.aempower.com/race_steph.asp
I threw this one in just for fun. It's the AEM civic I mentioned earlier. It's far from resembling anything Civic like other than the shape of the shell but this is a purpose built drag car that has run 6.52@213mph. And thats from 3.2liters. I don't care how anyone tries to argue that. Honda or not, tube chassis or not, turbocharged or not, that is frickin fast. And anyone who cant admit that is in serious need of an enlarger pump to compensate for their bigger is better ego trip they're on.

Now can we drop it or are these links not good enough. Those links are two years old too. And these cars only get faster. So I think it's time to drop this topic FINALLY. If, however, anyone is just in awe of that last link, I'm sure nobody would mind hearing about that one. In closing, point proven, case closed. A Honda motor can run in the 10's NA. I dont give a F@#k what it's in. PERIOD.

I also want to apologize to anyone if my attitude seemes out of line. But ignorance is one of the few things that actually gets under my skin. I'm really laid back and don't usually get involved in a debate unless it's completely misleading. There are alot of young people on this site (myself included) and the information we post on sites like these is where we as enthusiasts gain alot of knowledge. And while this debate had nothing to do with the Z, its cause was due to misleading statements and completely unfactual statements being made by someone with a vendetta against a company that in no way deserves the negative vibe that they are getting from people who have a problem with a few "ricers". So again, I apologize.

This probably isn't relevent but Im gonna say it anyway.

A few months ago our Z club had a dyno day. We had almost every generation of Z there, modified and unmodified. Several modified 300ZXtts and 350Zs were there and several modified 280ZXs. Also, had a few modified S30s and a bunch of stock Zs. Along with all the Zs came a 5.0 Mustang, a 4.6 Mustang, a 1971 T-Bird 429, and a turbo Civic. We all dynoed our cars and generally had a lot of fun. The Civic just happened to be the last to dyno that day. Up until the Civic came up, the most impressive numbers were a 300ZXtt with 356HP and my friends '71 T-Bird with 364TQ. Not the most amazing numbers I have ever seen but not bad either. Well, then its the Civic's turn to get on the rollers. Nobody is really expecting much out of little Honda 1.6 liter engine. All the Z club guys are making fun of the Civic guy as he pulls onto the dyno. After his first pull nobody was making fun of him anymore. He pulled 406HP on his final run and 350(?)TQ. None of the Z guys were laughing anymore, including myself. I guess its just one of those "Don't judge a book by its cover" kind of things.

I am not a fan of Honda at all but I also don't under-estimate the competition. Chances are that if a Civic pulls up next to you at a light, all he has is the usual intake, exhaust, ect. But you never know when that rare Civic with 500HP is gonna pull up next to you and make you look like a dumbass.

Plus theres the ever poplular trend of mis-badging cars too. I've seen V6 mustangs with cobra and saleen body kits sporting the cobra emblem or full saleen decals but still just had the 150HP 3.8! Integra LS's with the whole Type R theme. Just BS like that. It's the intimidation factor I guess. Id feel retarded if I put a Turbo emblem on my Z and someone found out it was NA. Oh yeah and this one is my favorite: Me and my buddy were driving to the Stillen open house thing they have and on the freeway we pull up to this eclipse all done up with the whole body kit and wing thing and jet black tint. Just for kicks(and knowing his car was f N fast) we pulled on him and then let off. Then we start hearing this guys blow off valve as he pulls up behind us. Then he pulls out and starts passing us, So my buddy gunned it and I watched that thing disappear in the mirror. Anyways we get off and stop at a gas station and the eclipse comes rolling in. Eric(my buddy) asks him what happened, did he miss a shift. The guy says no, he's got a non turbo. WHAT!!!! He had a fake blow off valve sound maker in his car to scare people but it didn't work on us. What a sucker .

Hey Fairlady I got your point with people slamming makers just because. I mean I won't deny if something I don't like is better in performance. But it is still fact, and there is no point in denying or argueing about it. Hey if I am wrong on things, I will admit it. I am not going to continue, and make myself look like an ***. Anyway about putting Turbo emblems on your n/a Z. I am guilty, but not because it will intimidate people. But for the fact that the look I am going for, is the Diaclone Bluestreak. And I want to get as close as possible to the original figure. With some touch-ups here and there. The other thing is I eventually in the future want to turn my '82 into a true Turbo! So I am planning ahead, so I am retarded LOL!

As for my Z, I'm going for the no emblem look while eventually it will be a turbo Z. Not really a sleeper as it should be a nice looking sports car, but I hope people assume it is a non-turbo.

WildmaN, atleast you got a theme you're going for, and you explained what it is you're doing. That's a whole different ballgame from alot of what's seen out on the streets. Most of it's harmless and doesn't bother me in the least. But when people try to argue that their integra is a Type R just because they put some emblems on it, that when it becomes a joke. Oh, and when you got a fake blow off valve, thats just funny. I totally respect what you're doing though, it sounds pretty cool, and atleast you've got future plans for the turbo motor .

Yeah I do, I have been pondering it for quite some time now. But I figured I would wait until, I get him back on the road. Then maybe get a Turbo motor on the side with all the goodies! And then little by little, replace, rebuild. And so on and so forth. I probably won't do it until I get my '81 back on the road. (the one with the wrecked front-end) Because it has been way too long since I have driven any of my Z's on the road. I am going on a year now to this date. And right now, I would be happy, to drive him the way he is. Well at least running better. But of course until I get myself financially straightened out. No more money in the Z. Also I appreciate you understanding what I am trying to accomplish with my Z, making him look like a Turbo. So I don't have to wear my dunce cap anymore? LOL!

About the fake blow off valve thing..Your car dosen't have to be turbo to have a blow off valve..all it does is release pressure when throttle closes suddenly..My friend has a camry with one in it haha. No one ****s with it either...Funny thing..my friend has a deloreon..2.8liter v6..130hp at the flywheel...NO ONE has EVER tryed him haha..he runs 17 in 1/4...and He ****s around with practically every car on the road..no one will race him haha....Why does everyone think that car has a 351C in it, it's not the pantera, damn.
