Piston how good

Iam going to rebuild my 82' 280zx i bought back in nov. 2005 , the car started smoking and when i change my spark plugs they had burnt oil build up. so i assume that the previous owner from they lady i bought it had it garage for a long time and never turned it on so my questions is since i am going to get it a complete rebuild on that engine where can i find some mild performance piston and and engine rebuild kit for it . i found a rebuild kit but don't know if it is a good kit.:

i dont think there is anything out there as preformance piston unless you go forged everything is OEM replacement, also stockers are pretty decent for taking a beating (unless you detonate)

i also looked at hes kits, but really you cant tell if they are good or not unless you know sombody who used them (i mean they seem good)

now, before you buy all this stuff...are you taking it to a machine shop to get it redone are are you gutting it out yourself and putting it together?
reason i ask is make sure you measure everything before you go buying parts...you never know whos done work to it..and if you buy stock pistons and its been overbored...well...you can tell where im going with this.

just my opinions here

The question you should be asking yourself is:

How much hp am I aiming for?

If you want 400+ hp (which you won't be getting with a non-turbo L28), then you should get some high performance pistons... otherwise, buy stock. No need in wasting your $$$.

i got a really done to the nuts n/a engine and im using .040" overbored stock type pistons, they are handling 10.8:1 compression no problem.

Forged pistons aren't really ideal for a street vehicle anyways. Especially if its your daily driver. Too many clearance issues with a cold motor. There are high silicone content forged pistons that have tighter clearances but then you gotta ask yourself if it's worth the expense. Like was said above, you gotta be pushing a good deal of power to justify forged pistons.

im about to be using forged pistons and rods, but i have never heard of cleance problem when cold, if you let your engine warm up properly you should not have this problem.
