Oil leak

Hi,

I have a very small trace of oil leak on the engine wall right by the oil fitler. I checked the oil sending unit but it looks dry. Could the leak be coming from the oil filter even if it is tight enough? Could there be a missing part between the oil filter and the engine mounting surface that causes the leak?

Thanks for your help

Were you the last person that changed the oil and filter? If so did lube up the rubber seal on the oil filter? I would change the oil and filter, clean up the old oil, and see if it leaks after that. Hope this helps.

I've just replaced the oil filter and oil twice in the last month to make sure that I've used the right filter and oil. I used a Nissan filter and a K&N filter but they both leaked. I'v always lubed the rubber seal on the oil filter. I just can't understand where the leak is coming from. Maybe it's not coming from the filter, could the head be leaking?

Is it leaking from the engine itself? Check the valve cover gasket, it may need to be replaced.

No, the leak is not coming from the engine itself. The leak is on bottom of the engine only, right by the oil filter, there is no trace of oil by the valve cover gasket.

its most likly coming from your oil pan gasket. when it starts to leak and when you drive the air cming from the bottom of the car pushes it up and splatters it on the side of your engine block.. well thats my guess.. id wash the engine first and then run the car to see where the leak is coming from....

Thanks Isaac. Good thought, I'll check it out.

How do you like your 350z and which model you got?

That would be cool to put the whale spoiler on the 350Z and paint it to match your 280ZX.

Haha I like Bleach's idea. That would be awesome.

It sounds sorta like what me, my dad, and my friend are going to do. My friend and I are going to paint my 280ZX and his Z31 the 350Z Silverstone color. If my dad ends up buying a 280Z, he is going to paint it Silverstone as well. Should be pretty cool.
