Newbie here

First of all, I want to thank you guys for letting me be a part of the site
Now for y project
I bought this car 3 days ago, never had a Datsun before so I figure that I can start now
Its a 1982 Datsun 280zx turbo
I can hear a knock on the engine ( maybe a rod)
I want to pull the engine out and do a overhaul on it
Never done one before
I pulled the engine out on my 2005 Comp G, I just replaced all the gaskets on that one
I need to figure out how to post pics and a video of it
Is there a way to find out if in fact it is the rod
Thank you and you will be seeing me here alot

Welcome!

Welcome to ZDriver! Your 'new' 280ZX turbo has some rewards and surprises for you. Datsun Inc. decided to change its name to Nissan in about 1981 (cost them mucho$ yen to do that but it was a marketing decision, pretty smart it turned out) and so you also own a 1982 Nissan 280ZX Turbo, in whatever condition it may be.

Your Z is 35 years old this year. If you have Datsun plaques and labels still there, please save them in your future work on it. On Ebay these days, you can sell almost anything. Datsun (the company) is no more - but they left a pretty impressive legacy - and Nissan calls their new "fun" model the "Datsun GO." Just for fun. History still rules in Japan.

You can visit XenonZcar.com and find Nissan's original factory service manual (FSM) for your year and model. (the site is down at the moment so I can't give you the page info) They have the FSM for every Z that was ever produced. Free & downloadable. Also a lot of other useful info not available elsewhere as far as I know. Save it all to your hard drive.

There are forums here for specialists and owners of your Z model. So also check them out. The Z people here are happy to read your questions and tell you what they have learned about your model. Your questions are always welcome, whatever your skill level, so don't be shy. Ask away!

Welcome again! Looking forward to your posts. Please include fotos. Just click on the little paper clip in the menu bar when you post something. I bet you can figure it out.

1982 ZXT Turbo

I own a 1982 ZXT, be careful, this car you just bought is alot different then reg Zs, I have spent almost 10 years tinkering with mine, went from hardly runs to runs great. Alot of mistakes made along the way.
Find out where that knock is coming from, top or bottom.

But in the end its a really fun car to drive.

Understand how it all works, one of the first injected cars with a computer, and no way to see data from computer, no obd 1 / obd 2 , nothing but the FSM to try and repair, dont throw money at it, it wont help, if there is a Z Club in your area JOIN, and get to know another Turbo owner, its worth 100 FSMs.
Sometimes you can actually buy a running zxt for cheap, could be better then rebuilding ( expensive), again learn, the faster the better.
