in need of clutch for 81 280zxnt.
 

my current stock clutch is worn and im looking for a new aftermarket one..

pretty much im simpl trying to find a clutch that will give me big bang vs. buck
im kinda hard on clutches due to my aggressive driving, and am willing to throw down a little extra cash..

any help, on what i should do for a decision or the actual clutch replacement woul be greatly appreciated!!

The stock replacement holds up pretty well to stock hp unless you are constantly burning it... in which case, you have other problems. :D

Centerforce and ACT are good upgrades.

Stock replacement will run you $120-$150, most performance clutches are $250-$500. I recommend a lower end performance clutch for your n/a motor since you're pushing about 115hp... unless you want to spend gobs for no reason.

I have a Centerforce dual friction, and love it. The only thing is, the instructions didn't say you have to shave the flywheel bolt heads... something I found out upon first removal about 2k miles later.

And the final word, which you and I are probably both sick of hearing... SEARCH. :D The clutch is a pretty basic topic that's been hammered to death way too much.

im pretty interested in the centerforce..how much did the one u have cost? and how much modding do u have to do for it to be correct?
and while i have the flywheel removed, should i do anything to it besides inspect it to see if its alrite as far as damage?...ive replaced a flywheel in a automatic truck before, but never delt with clutches...im young and have little experience and am dying to learn more..

The only maintenance to do on a flywheel is take it to a machine shop to have it resurfaced. They will grind it down slightly and it smooths the surface out. (like having your rotors turned)

you can also get it balanced and slightly lightened there too. for street dont remove more than 5 lbs or so. it will add extra snap and feel smoother at 7000 rpm :D

The heavier flywheel is better for launching and popping the clutch to do all those burnouts you do!

hmm... i dont understand y i need to resurface the flywheel.. like i understand that i need to take it out in order to shave the flywheel bolt heads if i was to go with a centerforce clutch but..what exactly does resurfacing benefit?

The clutch & flywheel functions the same basic way as the brake system. Overheated rotors & pads don't work as well. Machining the rotor gets it back to "true", removes contaminates, and unifies the surface. Same for the flywheel.

BUT... usually you don't need your flywheel machined, unless it's been abused. A simple pneumatic surfacing kit will do the trick:
