EatmyDust Jan 29, 2006 06:18 PM

s/cL3.0 Jan 29, 2006 06:21 PM

Cool. What kinda tires are you runnin' on there?

Bleach Jan 29, 2006 08:10 PM

1987-89 300ZX Turbo

raise the back of your car up so both rear wheels are hanging. turn one wheel by hand. If they both turn the same direction then the differential is LSD or welded. If they turn opposite directions then it is an open differential.

EatmyDust Jan 29, 2006 08:42 PM

Cheap Wall Mart tires.

jfairladyz Jan 29, 2006 08:51 PM

A true testament to the handling of the Z: I've got rotted bushing and I'm rolling on Kirkland Signature series tires and my Z can still hang in the turns fairly well compared to some cars. Of course driving in a straight line is another story. For those of you who know what Costco is, thats their generic brand. Yes you can get Kirkland tires and some Kirkland corn at the same time :D

Dorifto Jan 29, 2006 09:27 PM

Ain't nothin wrong with Costco, and the Kirkland Signature line of products, services, and goods. :D Matter of fact, right now I'm eating a healthy slice of chocolate cake produced by our friends at Kirkland Signature/Costco, Inc. :D

Yeah, with 80,000 mile warranty tires, it's not much of a surprise you can smoke 'em like a 500hp muscle car.

Those things are probably harder than the asphalt you drive on. ;)

They grip better in the wet then they do when it's dry roads :D They came with the car and still have plenty of tread. I wouldn't recommend them on track day but they arent so bad that they make me miserable driving it. They are a bit unpredictable though. When the do break loose they do it suddenly. Found that out in CO driving it out here through the rockies. Even so, my brother in his 98 stang couldn't hang with his Yokohamas ;) Take a turn and keep accelerating, then without warning the ass just starts kicking out. Not real bad but enough to make you think twice about taking a hard turn without a guardrail :eek: My bro said that every time I'd hit about mid turn he could see the rear end start sliding out then all of a sudden it would just kick back in. If I ever get around to upgrading my wheels I'll upgrade the tires with something a lot stickier so I can really enjoy her. Of course shocks, springs, and bushings are first on the list though. I gotta love my Z though, while it was still pulling hard up the mountain he said his Mustang would just stop accelerating. On long uphill stretches I would completely loose him in my rearview until we came to a down grade. Then he'd fly up on me while I was conserving my gas going down hill :p

Yea I broke my tires loos one time taking a last minut parking space, I made it in, but I made it in the parking lot side ways, and kep going all the way to the spot. every one was looking at me like a jack ass, but I tell you what it kind of felt cool pulling off such a stunt and not even meaning to.

Any one have expierience with welded R200's?? I want to purchase one but dont know how it will do on the street

lww Feb 5, 2006 09:24 AM

It will be crap on the street and will most likely snap a u-joint.

The inside tire will hop on every turn.

Welded diffs are only good for the drag strip.

jmmorriso Feb 5, 2006 03:55 PM

Theres a bunch of z32 vLSDs and a 240sx vLSD in the junkyard. Can I make one fit? The 240sx also has HICAS, didnt know they did that.

I think they are short nose and will require a different drive shaft.. (correct me if I am wrong)

Yeah... I've heard a couple horror stories about welded diffs. A local guy that auto-x's his mod'd 240Z had a welded diff in it for a while... until he pulled the rear suspension out from the car in a turn. Caused a lot of damage!

Just run an open differential.
Remember, the first LSD R200 you find you will sell cheap to me... then you can find your own....

that goes for the rest of you too! :D

Bleach Feb 6, 2006 11:51 AM

no, I do not want a welded LSD

RodMoyes Feb 6, 2006 01:00 PM

Um.... If you WELD an LSD... Is it still an LSD ?????????????????

lww Feb 6, 2006 01:00 PM

Welded = NO slip

Limited = a little slip... ;)

I got my R200 LSD purchased, setup, installed with new Castrol Syntec gear oil for $500.

I'd call that a little low with setup and installation included. They typically go for $300 just for the unit itself.

You can get a new LSD assembly from http://www.westcoastdifferentials.com for about $550 and shim it to fit in our 10mm R200's.

I was about to order one for my 240Z until I stumbled across the aformentioned deal.
