L28E Help

Going to a pick n pull soon to pull a L28 to rebuild for my 79 Z. I have afull set of tools but I'd rather not bring my 3 grand of tools to a parts yard. So, a question to anyone who has pulled an L28, what exact tools do I need to pull the engine without accessories, just the block, head and valve cover? Thank you for any help.

I would find one on craigslist that is already pulled if you have no junkyard experience, IMHO. I have a bunch of harbor freight sockets/wrenches and husky ratchets with various extensions, swivels and adapters in their own backpack so I can take them to the junkyard or throw them in the car for a just in case on a road trip or something.

If you still want to pull a motor, I would buy the long block. Bring a set of both short and long 6 point 3/8's drive metric sockets from 10-19mm, a set of 10-19mm wrenches, small cheater bar, a small pry bar to wedge between the flywheel and starter so you can break the the bolts loose on the flywheel and front crank pulley and bring a sharp pocket knife and a pair of small tin snips.

Rule of thumb for the junkyard, if it's not something you need, nobody else needs it and you might as well break it if its in your way.

x2.

You'll need more tools and spend more time to get all the accessories off... to save $15?

From the PnP website:

300-4F Engine F-Inj W/Access Car $149.99
300-2 Engine Long Block Car $134.99
300-1 Engine Short Block Car $109.99
