l24 crank in a l28 block

Has anybody built a de-stroked l28 with the l24 crank. I was thinking of this but don't know if it is worth it. The stroke is shorter so the revs come up but I don't know how much or anything so if this has been done I'd love to hear about it.

A professionaly balanced bottom end will do more for revving high than just destroking the engine.

I've heard that the L28 crank can't rev over 7500rpm without vibration problems. Is that true?

I do not know my tach stops at 7000. Whenit was pegged I did not feel any additional vibration.. {tires were shakin cuz of the speed} This was done in 4th gear.

having it balanced eliminates those vibrations. Besides, are you really wanting 9000 rpm? What's the rpm goal?

You do realize you better have a majorly ported head, a huge cam, and NISMO competition valve springs. Also, a new ECU or tripple webber carbs.

Yeah but has anyone ever done the swap? I just wanted to know if it was a good or bad idea.

I dont' think anyone has done the swap. The block is the same height in the L28 and L24. Why swap in the crank and pistons from an L24 when you can just use an L24 engine?

Because the bore is bigger on the l28. It wuold still use the same rods and piston diamiter.

Well, you could always be the guinea pig and let us know how it goes. It sounds like an interesting idea to me. If it works well I might just tear my engine apart again and try it.

If you use the same rods as the L28 then your shorter stroke will cause the piston not to reach to top of the block. You'll have 7:1 compression or something like that.

Bore out an L24 block to accept KA24E pistons. (flat tops) They are larger bore than the L28. On some web pages outlining how to build a 3.1 stroker I have seen specs on Nissan piston bore and pin height along with connecting rod length. Using that, you can figure out how close to 'deck height' a KA24e piston will be when used in an L24 block. The KA24e piston is a 3mm overbore in an L28. I forgot how much larger bore the L28 is to the L24. In a machine shop, a bore is a bore as far as cost. 1mm or 5mm won't matter.
