intake junk...with or without???

All right I have gotten a little sidetracked with my engine here recently, but now I am kind of back to what I had been making... A new intake. I really don't like the stock one because I have some large o-ring injectors and want to use those with a nice new rail and fpr and also because of all that extra junk on it like egr, cruise control, plus a billion other stuff.
So getting to my point, what are the bare necessities I need on the intake. I know I need the boost sensor and all of the hoses to make the turbo work, bust what else do I need???? Can I completely take out the cruise control stuff(even the stuff on mounted on the side of the engine bay), iac, egr, and possibly the vacumm modulator??? Let me know, I just want a really clean look with my new home made to piece billet aluminium intake sittin there shining.......

thanks,
jason

I am also interested in what can be ripped out without causing problems.

bump, I really would like to know pretty soon. I want the engine bay to look very clean....

I have taken off the cruise control that is easy just make sure you plug the holes up with something..I will be doing the rest once I get my body work done. I want my intake manifold to look like this one :D http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/cus...asp?PartID=273

yeah that thing looks awesome. I still has a couple of an fittings coming out the back though. I wonder what they are for. Also did you take off the black tanks and electrical connections that runs the cruise control???? Did it mess with your computer

Bleach Mar 16, 2005 01:48 PM

The larger fitting off the back is for the brake booster. You need that!

The smaller fitting might just be a generic vaccume line. Can be used for a NA type distributor. The turbo I think is all controlled electronically by the ECU. hmmm... I haven't really looked at my turbo engine yet.

Also, that will have no cold-start injector or cold start "high idle" valve. Those two items take up the first half of the manifold near the throttle body.

For me I'm taking off the AC (which does not work) and cruise control. I still want cold start features.

What all is involved in taking out the cruise control? Mine doesn't work and I would like to clean up the engine a bit too.

I guess another question I have, is disconnecting any of those electrical connections gonna effect the compter????

Bleach Mar 18, 2005 10:38 AM

Yes, I would think the electrical connections have something to do with how well the engine runs.

Others may have relocated those connections to the underside of the manifold for looks. Re-drill and tap new threads for sensors, ect. What a pain.

As for the Cruise. There are two small vaccume lines off the back of the manifold. Remove and plug that hold. Then a cable pull on part of the throttle linkage. The rest of on the other side of the engine compartment. There is a black canister that a couple of the lines run into. Other lines run out of that canister. You'll have to check where they go. I have not yet removed mine.

vvillium3 Mar 18, 2005 12:05 PM

I was wondering if I can remove those black canisters and electical connections on them????

Bleach Mar 18, 2005 12:17 PM

OH, the fuel injectors. Sure, remove those. You get a lot better gas milage without them.

I just rerouted one of my vaccumm lines to a l-bow connector?? Still running fine..

That is a good one I did'nt read that earlier..Ha ha :D

vvillium3 Mar 18, 2005 01:54 PM

obviously I was talking about the the canisters that run the cruise control....haha????

Bleach Mar 18, 2005 03:26 PM

oh, well you didn't specify where. We are all talking specifically about how to clean up the intake manifold. So I'm saying just plug the lines on the manifold. The canisters wont' effect the computer at all, but leaving open vacume ports on the manifold will effect the fuel mixture.

Remove all the stuff, and plug and spots on the manifold. Take it slow, and do one line at a time.

okay sweet, plan on getting ot it this weekend

Skully Mar 19, 2005 08:33 AM

i ripped everything off...my cruise, ac and ac components, charcoal canister crap, my dizzy with vac advance...
alls im leaving is my is vaccum for the controls inside of the car (heat, and stuff) and egr stuff (or if i dont need it ill take that off too...) and my brake booster vac.
