installing a new exhaust

Im putting in a new exhaust soon and i was taking a look at my manifold today, it looks like its goin to be a bitch to get at. Do i need to remove my intake to get to it? '82 280zx n/a

yeah, getting that exhaust manifold off is a real pain in the arse! You have to disconnect all of your fuel stuff, your wiring harness, throttle linkages, and anything else that connects the intake manifold to the rest of the car. Also, you have to pray that the EGR tube isn't siezed into the exhaust manifold bung when you try to wrench it loose, or you will have a real mess on your hands. It's a lot easier to remove the intake/exhaust if you can get the car on a lift. Don't skimp on the header gasket when putting it all back together. Get the best one you can find because that's definately not a job that you will want to do twice!

good luck!

I found the only way to do it is from going at it from the top. It is a pain in the you know what and very time comsuming, but not hard. Just buy some PB blaster...it'll be your best friend when getting those rusty nuts and bolts to break loose. And have patience my friend...lots and lots of patience. Good luck.

Thanx again for the advice, it is much appreciated. Bye the way I've called three shops, No one will touch my exhaust manifold!!

Yeah, I've had the same problem...either they over price me or they won't touch it. It is a pain in the ass, but when I did it I had a six pack of beer (well a lot more than that), the comfort that the people here at zdriver can help, and some patience. :D Good luck

With a ratchet spanner/wrench I was able to tighten all my 12 mm bolts from underneath and stop my exhaust blow by, I don't know whether you can get all the lower bolts out that way. Speaking of seized bolts how do you unseize the idle adjusting screw on the mark 2 280zx throttle adjust? Mine was idling at 1500 rpm so I wacked it with a hammer and that depressed it back to 1000 rpm but not reccomended by Neesan!!

Have you tried spraying with WD-40?

SteveGee 08-06-2003 10:34 PM

WD40 RP11, its cad plated steel in aluminium alloy, the worse combo.

Its OK at moment.
